So does it really require 125 watts?

No. It is as bright as a 125 watt incandescent bulb. This is a very bright daylight temperature white light. It makes a very good ahop light or anywhere that color rendering matters like reading or cooking or any kind of activity that requires a very good light.

How close to omnidirectional is this bulb? My use case requires at least 220 degrees of strongly horizontal light.

A lot depends on how the bulb is mounted. As you can see, the translucent area of the bulb is slightly greater than a hemisphere. I'm not sure that I fully understand your requirements. Like most bulbs, this one provides 360 degrees of light radiation on the horizontal plane, anywhere above about midpoint of the bulb if mounted base down, and the same downward from its mid point when mounted base up. On the vertical plane it would project light slightly more than 180 degrees, either upwards or downwards depending on mounting.

For example, if an LED bulb has a life expectancy of 25,000 hours, the bulb will be producing 70% the light output that it was producing when new.
