Title: Honest Review of This Budget Small Outboard Motor – Gets the Job Done, But With Some Quirks
I bought this inexpensive small outboard primarily as an auxiliary for my 450 lb small sailboat, and overall I’m pleased with the value—it does exactly what I needed it to do at a very low price point. Here’s a breakdown of my experience after a one use: The Good: • Starts easily and runs OK overall. • Pushed my ~450 lb sailboat to a respectable 4.7 mph in calm conditions—plenty for auxiliary/maneuvering purposes (not racing!). • Has a nice neutral at idle (propeller stops spinning at lower RPMs), which is great for control around the dock. • For the money, it’s a solid entry-level option if you go in with realistic expectations—no one’s expecting Honda/Yamaha-level refinement here. The Not-So-Good (But Not Surprising): • It’s very loud—like, uncomfortably so. Bring ear plugs every time; seriously, don’t skip this. • The pull-start rope housing cracked on the very first use (I’ve hoping to order a replacement starter rope assembly). • A pivot bolt on the mount fell out on initial use—check and tighten all bolts as the manual instructs (it does warn you to recheck them after running). • Had to replace a fouled spark plug after just 1.5 tanks of fuel, but this is actually mentioned in the user manual as something to watch for on these engines. • The manual itself is pretty basic and not very detailed—fine for basics, but don’t expect in-depth troubleshooting help. Other Notes: • I’m looking into an aftermarket muffler to hopefully tame the noise a bit. • I don’t expect this motor to handle rough abuse at all—treat it gently, use fresh fuel/mix, and stay on top of basic maintenance. • Bottom line: If you’re on a tight budget and need semi-reliable auxiliary power for a light sailboat or dinghy, this motor delivers. It’s not perfect, and it shows its price in build quality and refinement, but it gets me away to/from the dock and out from the middle of the commercial channels. without breaking the bank. Happy with the purchase so far, especially if I can replace the starter housing (it’s plastic)! Would buy again for the price, but would step up to a name-brand if I needed something more durable or long-term. 🚤 Ps. In video I tied a pole to tiller to get further from the muffler.

Motor mount was defective and broke the first time used
The motor is great, but one motor mount was defective and when it broke, it threw my husband over board and was spinning in circles. Luckily a jet ski pulled up and was able to pull the kill switch. Our dog was terrified in the boat while this was happening. We tried reaching out to the seller for a replacement motor mount, but got no response. He has since bought a new mount.

Unfortunately did not work
After assembly and working on the motor for several hours cannot get it to spin. Had to return.

It works
I don’t know much of the motor other than my dad wanted it for his little boat and he been fishing almost every weekend this summer and hasn’t said anything about it other than bring home a whole bunch of catfish
