Have been using this filter housing for over 5 years and am glad I bought this model. The filters are large and therefore do not get clogged very fast. I clean them once every 18 to 24 months and they are still far from being clogged and have no pressure drop. The first filter is 30 micron, second is 10 micron. I will change the second filter to 5 micron. This is on a well and apparently the well water is very good so ymmv. The only negative are the brackets. I reinforced them with another bracket and strongly recommend doing that. When filled with water these housings weigh a lot more than you would think and move too easily, possibly loosening the pipe connection when servicing the filter or bumping into the housing. Their is enough room to attach the bottom bracket hole to the filter bracket with a nut and bolt without screwing into the actual filter housing. What can I say, it’s the name brand Pentair, solid feeling, everything looks like proper sizing and fitment. Overall good quality.

This is a very sturdy, very large 20" sump for a household water filtering system. It arrived on time and in excellent condition. I got exactly what I ordered (some folks had issues with receiving a 3/4" in/out when ordering this 1" version). It took me a couple of assembly attempts getting a good seal on each of the two canisters I ordered since the large o-ring slipped out of the groove, but a 2nd attempt got everything sealed good and tight. Be sure to use the silicon lubricant that's provided. Not only does it provide a better seal and easier removal later, it's also fairly gooey thus helping to hold the o-ring in place while screwing the canister to the cap. These things seem to be heavy duty and I expect them to last for years. Be sure to order the optional metal mounting brackets since these guys are fairly heavy, especially after filling with water. I would not be comfortable letting my piping support the weight as some have mentioned. I configured a two stage filtering system--the first filtering out 5 micron particles and the second taking it down to 1 micron. I don't need carbon or iron filters since I have good quality well water other than the sediment particles. I recommend this item and would buy it again.

My big gripe about this product is about the little things and maybe most of those are related to the vendor. First, the unit shipped to me had a broken tab on the inside. There are a half dozen tabs in the lid to hold the filter centered. One of those was broken off. Then, the lid itself leaked, kind of oozed water out of the fittings. I'm wondering if I was sent a used unit. Perhaps the previous owner over tightened the fittings and caused some sort of invisible micro fractures that let the water ooze out? OK, so that is one issue that could be solved by not sending out a used item. The second issue is that the mounting bracket doesn't come with it, so be prepared to spend another $16 just for the bracket. Oh, and then the bracket doesn't come with the screws to attach it to the filter. It really seems like they're just trying to nickle and dime you. The worst part is you don't know this until you receive the filter, so it is back to ordering and waiting again and again. Overall, a pretty lousy experience. How does the filter work? OK. It is just a big cylinder that you put a cartridge into. One thing to note. There is no down tube in this thing. It just relies on the filter head pressing into the filter cartridge to seal off the flow of water and force it through the media. The little tabs on the underside of the head are supposed to keep it in alignment. Not sure how great a design that is, but I guess it works OK. The quality of the output is going to depend more on the cartridge than on this housing. Would I buy another? Good question. I am setting up another piece of equipment and have a need, but I'm going to browse around some more before I accept that this is the best option.

I put a 100 micron spin down and two of these in line ahead of my softener. A pleated 50 micron followed by a wound string 5 micron. They clean a huge amount of sediment and iron out of my well water. As well, I put a few ounces of resin cleaner in the softener brine for every regeneration. The resulting water is soft, crystal clear and tastes great! You can drill and tap the bottom of these for a ball valve. Then, you can drain the sump before changing the filter. These 20” sumps are HEAVY when full of water. Another trick is to bolt a shelf to the wall just below these, (leave enough clearance to unscrew!) so when you unscrew it, and can’t control the weight, it will only fall a few inches instead of to the floor. Which will break it. Go to my yt channel, mguerramd, to see a video of how to clean and back flush a pleated filter, and save a ton of money on filters.

One of the better brands in the industry. Installed two of these in-line from a city water feed to filter out chlorine and contaminants before hitting the rest of our home. They do not come with brackets or wrenches so that’s why I didn’t give this 5 stars. They really should come with a bracket and housing wrench, 99% of the filter housings out there do. With that said this isn’t the best deal on a housing that you can get but I do trust the brand, especially with the pressure relief valve design.

The original big blue water filter. I have had another brand of these and it was not as good and needed to be replaced as it eventually leaked. The way the o ring sits on this one is much better as well, and it does not get deformed or stretched out.
