The Bog Buddies products are made using real 10,000 year old Irish Bog (turf) that has been air dried and shaped by our crafts people. The bogs of Ireland make up around 5% of the land are made up of partially decomposed plants and trees. Raised bogs, from where we make our products, were formed at the end of the last ice age which was about 10,000 years ago. At this time much of Ireland was covered in shallow lakes left from the melting ice. Over the centuries, poor drainage and the build-up of dead plants created layer upon layer of peat. Traditional Irish country houses would cut the wet peat into blocks, stack and dry them and then use the finished product as "turf" in their open fireplaces.
