We love this brand. They make some of the best and most pure food out there for cats. We chose them as an alternative to starting a prescription cat diet. It smells really great, and actually is a great value because of the bulk-style packaging. We calculated the cost per meal for our cat and it is less per meal than fancy feast medleys. The texture of the turkey version is a mildly loose pate because they don't use toxic gelling agents like guar gum, but it is a little gritty like ground turkey. The chicken, on the other hand, is so yummy my cat can't help himself. It looks appetizing. Something I would spread on toast and eat myself, and I believe there is a customer who has done so already lol. We tried a few other reputable awesome brands of cat food with exclusively animal protein and my cat didn't like them. If you're worried about phosphorus, give them a call at their customer service line, and they will send you the complete nutritional sheet. If you're on Tanya's CKD page, the phosphorus values have gone down even more in the newest batches. Looking forward to his next lab workup after switching to this food! Also, I just like how personal they are with customer service, calling me back, and even being willing to send some samples in the mail. Great company!

I did a lot of research on cat food before settling on this brand. I wanted high protein and no fillers. It has very high quality ingredients and meets the appropriate nutrition profile for cats (who are obligate carnivores) plus it’s more cost effective compared to other brands in its quality bracket. The best thing is that my cats love it and took to it right away. It doesn’t have a bad smell— to me it looks and smells like any other wet pate food I’ve encountered. Definitely a great find!

We purchased this because our cat has IBD and this was a top recommended food. The food is great but the shipping is terrible AND they refused to replace or refund our purchase. So one star for the lack of customer service. The shipping is their responibility and this should have been replaced. Will order this food from CHEWY from now on because their customer service is top notch! We are dissappointed by their lack of customer service for this specific situation. This is unacceptable for cat food that costs so much per can. Would recommend the food would not recommend buying on amazon thru their company.

Been feeding this brand for a while now with great success for my cats' overall health. Some H&G other flavors were initially liked, but then rejected. This flavor is constantly accepted, so it is my go to and I try to rotate other flavors once in a while and Gamebird is a good one to keep on rotation but the last case I bought of Gamebird was very thick whereas this chicken flavor is super soupy and runny. I can mix the two for a "normal" consistency. Chicken isn't always this soupy so I am not sure if the supply chain issues caused more water to be added or what.

Hound & Gatos wet cat food is a top-tier choice for fostering neonatal kittens. With high-quality, species-appropriate ingredients, it provides the essential nutrition growing kittens need. The texture is smooth and easy for young kittens to eat, and they absolutely love the taste. While it may be on the pricier side, the superior quality and balanced nutrition make it well worth the investment. Great for my 14 year old cat. He's getting better nourishment, and the 5.5 oz can lasts longer than his former brand. This food is pricey, but worth it!

UPDATE: I confirm that this is hit and miss. If you get the actual "made in the USA" canned products, my review below stands; however, on occasion you may get cans that don't say "made in the USA," and they have silver lids rather than gold lids. The texture of the food, the quality of the can, and the smell are all a bit suspect, and I'm not exactly sure what I'm getting. My cats will still eat it, but it definitely seems to be lower quality, and it's almost certainly not made in the US. Took away two stars because of it. This is quality food compared to any super market, Petco, Petsmart, etc. types of food that you will find. This is second only to raw, freeze-dried, and human-grade food. There are no fillers in this product, except for, maybe, agar agar; otherwise, it's completely balanced, and you won't find any grains, legumes, vegetables, or fruits in these cans. Cats are obligate carnivores, and any cat food that contains these ingredients is not 100% optimum, but, as with many things in life, you have to strike a balance. Cats need most of their protein from animals - end of story. When I open these cans (I've tried the chicken and the gamebird), I have to admit that it looks and smells savory enough that I'd want to try. Okay, well, if that's too excessive, I can at least appreciate from the aroma and texture that my felines are going to have quite a feast. They love it.

I love the ingredient list on the Hound and Gatos canned cat food. It's usually worth the extra cost. My cats have sensitive GI tracts and are prone to IBD, which thickeners have been known to cause. Novel proteins, great ingredient list. What's not to like? Quality control problems, that's what. I fed this to my kittens and three of them nearly died from watery diarrhea, which is still ongoing in two of them. I took them to the vet for a full diarrhea panel. It's acting like salmonella but much worse. (I've dealt with salmonella before with my cat and my son in two separate incidents, laboratory confirmed salmonella.) I'm so disappointed in the company's quality control. This is a unique canned cat food. Such a shame really.
