Dreams: (From Volumes 4, 8, 12, and 16 of the Collected Works of C. G. Jung) (Jung Extracts) Review: I love Jung's theories - I love Jung's theories. They make a lot of sense to me where Freud's not so much. Cocaine kinda rotted Freud's ability to have good judgment although he hit on a few good points. Likely when he was sober. For me, Dreams are a huge thing in my life and within the superstitions of my family. Understanding how the mind works especially in the subconscious mind. With this book, I am now able to understand my dreams and what is going on in the background of my life/mind. I can now use my dreams to determine how I am doing in my everyday life and if I need to pay special attention to something that may be weighing heavy on my emotional mind. Basically understanding my dreams helps me to understand daily issues I may be experiencing. Loved this book. Review: Quality product - Excellent condition and delivery was ahead of schedule.

Better Understanding in Marriage
I have only just received this book and have barely skimmed it. However, I can tell you that if you are accustomed to reading Jung it is fascinating, revelatory, and greatly illuminating in understanding the psychological differences in people so that one can better understand the bewildering problems of communication between people. Understanding your own psychological type helps you realize you don't constitute a "norm" for perception and understanding your mate's type enables you to understand where he's coming from. For one who is not accustomed to educated and/or academic writing it might be a little daunting to plow through.

This new reprint of Jung's classic dreams texts is as good as it gets for an introduction to Jung's writings on dreams, with a new preface and all the original images. No doubt about it, some of the essays are tough reading, this is not Jung-lite but it's perfect for my purposes -- I use it to teach graduate level dream studies.

All Dream from Jung's Complete Works
The individual dreams presented in this book come originally from Jung's CW, but it is certainly a time saver to have the at hand in this single volume

Dreaming and the Psyche According to Jung
In this collection of papers by Jung we get a general synthesis of Jung's ideas around the nature and function of dreams, followed by an analysis of the dreams of particular subjects (patients) Jung had worked with. There is much to think about in Jung's analysis of dreaming. Separating himself from the Freudian idea that dreams mostly carry a latent content of the repressed the sexual (libido) drive, Jung instead saw dreams as an expression of the unconscious psyche. For Jung, one has to look at not only what past experiences in the individual and collective life history of individuals form the contents of dreams, but also why the dream content is expressed the way it is. That is, Jung contended that dreams have a purpose for the psyche. One purpose is for the unconscious psyche to compensate for the conscious. For example, a man who shows hubris in waking life may experience a situation in dreaming where he finds himself as in some way incompetent, humiliated or inadequate. Jung saw this as a part of a more overarching purpose of the unconscious psyche to be integrated into the conscious psyche in order to improve psychic functioning - a process Jung called "individuation." Jung contended that the unconscious can be symbolically represented in dreams by the symbol of the mandala and much of this book gives an analysis of the dreams of a particular patient who Jung felt had dream content that used mandala symbolism . In Jung's analysis, he relates the subject's mandala dream symbolism to religious and occult/alchemist historical texts as they are an expression of the primitive roots of the unconscious psyche. In this particular collection of writings, I feel it comes through most strongly how much Jung did not ascribe to an empirical science of mind, but rather to a creative exploration of mind. Rather then objectively discovering the "facts" of the psyche, one playfully explores the semantic associations that build within the psyche and then sees where these associations take us. For Jung, dreams reveal the objects of the unconscious, just as in waking life perceptions reveal the objects of the physical world, but these "objects" as as much created through analysis as discovered. If anyone is interested in a broader outline of Jung's theoretical ideas about the mind, this book is probably not the place to start and the extensive historical references to religious/alchemist texts may be a bit much for some. Still, like all of Jung's work, there are a lot of interesting ideas explored and one does not need to be a Jungian expert to enjoy this book. There is is also a short chapter on the practical applications of dream analysis which could be useful for any practitioners of dream analysis.
