Picked up a new hobby. This kit is great. It's got everything you need to make a little bird. The guide is great, the knife is really nice, and you get all the things you need to start whittling. Even band-aids! Great product.

Kit came as described. I liked that it had 2 different types of wood. One is definitely easier to cut. Spray the other with alcohol and water mixture to soften the wood. Spray often is what I've been told to do from various whittling groups. Used the finger tape, as the knife was just a bit too big for my small 65-year-old hands. Cuts happen. It's part of whittling but can be reduced with gloves and tape together. Happy it came with beeswax and sandpaper. Nothing else you need to buy, except maybe gloves. My bird doesn't look exactly as it is pictured, but every piece will be unique, as no two people whittle the same. Overall, instructions were good and gives a person a try to see if they like to whittle.

This kit is a lot of fun. It came with two blocks of wood. One Basswood the other Cherry. The Cherry is hard it was the first one I carved into a bird. Once you put the paper bird on with glue, it helps to saw off any excess. I love the knife. With a little touch up on the strop to keep it sharp ,It cuts good . I like the wax that came with the kit . It makes the Cherry bird that I carved look real nice. Now I am going to have to carve the other block . The sandpaper that came with it works very good. Every thing you get in the kit is a good value for what I paid. Very durable and tuff knife.

The practice wood was super easy and nice to carve for the majority of the block. I seemed to get a knot or something, though, as one section was markedly harder to carve than the rest. The rest of the kit is nice and straightforward though. I sharped the knife more than the instructions called for as I was struggling a bit with that one portion of wood. My bird is a little ugly but it was fun

This is a decent kit as far as what it includes, but the wood and knife quality could be better. The wood I received is too hard to work with, and the darker parts splinter or crack off instead of being able to be carved off in smooth shavings. The knife issue may simply be a result of the hard wood, but it's definitely taking a beating and not holding up well. I ended up having to get a knife sharpener because the stropping wasn't enough to smooth it out or keep it sharp. I also bought metal files to help shave down some of the wood that's too hard to carve. This is becoming quite an expensive Mother's Day gift when I factor in the accessories I've had to buy just to make it possible. If the wood were softer and didn't splinter, this kit would be 5/5 stars.

Got this as a Christmas gift for my 11 year old daughter. We were both skeptical at first but she had fun learning. She is able to start and stop on her own time and she loves seeing the progress she has made. I do wrap her hands and you may need extra coban eventually. The kit came with 2 wood blocks, so great price.

This was a fun project, I completed both birds over a week, only working a couple of hours a night. You could definitely speed that up by using a saw to help remove some of the wood. I accidentally started with the cherry wood included in the kit, it was fairly hard to cut into and I needed to strop the knife every half hour or so to keep the edge on it. However, the basswood block cut much easier. It took about half the time that the cherry did to carve into a passable bird shape. The included booklet only included simple steps on how to work on the bird and the video of it wasn't that much better. Serviceable, but I would recommend some tutorials on youtube to supplement the process. The knife included in the kit isn't top of the line, but it's still a great knife. The blade is not too thick, razor-sharp, and has a comfortable handle. The wood is good quality, mine had no blemishes at all in it. All in all, this is a great way to get started with wood carving. If you're interested in giving it a try, pick this kit up.

Très bien même. Un poil onéreux si on ce dit que le couteau est de très bonne qualité et coupe bien et pour le modèle et le , mais avec de morceau de bois tendre. Sinon c’est une très belle activité à faire. La notice est en anglais. La vidéo également.

This kit is brilliant! I bought it for my boyfriend and I to do together as there are two blocks of wood (a bit of healthy competition, haha!). All equipment was present with a great instruction book and access to online video tutorials. It is such a smart product, really unique and the perfect thing to have a go at during lockdown. We were both very impressed, thank you!
