Every home should have one
This unit has transformed my kitchen knife sharpening experience. Most people, if they have any sharpeners at all, use crappy pull through sharpeners with carbide blades. They are quick, easy, and idiot proof. They also sharpen unevenly, get your knives just sharp enough to cut, and remove a lot of material and will eventually deform the shape of your blades. This is a “proper” sharpening system, and for the price it’s the best basic setup that should be standard in every kitchen. My set of Sabatier kitchen knives we’ve had since I was a kid have never been this sharp. I also have a large and always growing collection of knives, from huge choppers down to thin slicy pocket folders, and I wanted something for them with more capability than the excellent Worksharp Guided Field Sharpener, which has been my go to sharpener for more than a year but is really meant as a portable unit for repairing your knives away from home. The Benchstone has more real estate to work with (6 x 1-1/2” vs 4 x 1”), and the ability to switch out the guides so different knives can be sharpened at different angles if necessary. 20 degrees is a good all around angle that provides the best combination of cutting ability and durability, but some knives, like boning and filet knives, will require a more acute angle. The Benchstone comes with 20 and 25 degree angle guides, but you can purchase 15 and 17 degree guides separately from the Worksharp website. If these were included with this unit it would be a perfect beginners sharpening system; the fact that I had to go and make a separate purchase on their website (I also bought a spare fine diamond plate) and pay for shipping was annoying, and it may be disqualifying for some people who are willing to pay $50 but not $65, before tax. But I still don’t think you will find anything better, more versatile, or easier to use for the price than this. Even if you’re not a knife junky like me, this is a perfect one and done purchase to take care of all your knives. Just be warned, if your knives are dull and neglected from years of use, clanking around with other silverware, and being sharpened with cheap crappy sharpeners, that initial proper sharpening will take a while. After that though, it will be much easier as long as you stay on top of it. A few strokes on the ceramic or fine diamond plate every so often will be all you need to maintain sharp knives. Just get it and you won’t need anything else.

Tilt feature is actually very nice!
This is a great knife sharpener. I recently upgraded some of my kitchen knives to high quality Japanese Damascus steel knives. I didn't want to get rid of some of my old knives, but they were in desperate need of a good sharpening. I thought the tilting feature on this was going to be a gimmick, but it works surprisingly well! It cleaned up the old knife edges easily. The angle guide is great for teaching beginners how to sharpen a knife properly. The unit sits firmly on the table and does not slide around while using it. Well worth the price, and highly recommended!

Great Free Hand Knife Sharpener
WorkSharp makes great knife sharpeners in my opinion. This Diamond Tri-Stone (actually 2 diamond stones and 1 ceramic) makes sharpening your larger Hunting and Camping knives easier. You can actually learn to sharpen a knife with this device because it has angle guides that attach magnetically on each end. The guides also will easily fall off too so be careful when applying too much pressure. It works. It's easy to use. It's a great value for the money. I bought it because it was a great low price and I like thier Fixed Angle Knife Sharpener (The Elite Model) but the Elite model won't sharpen bigger knives so you need a free hand sharpener. It is portable. You need a flat surface. It does have rubber feet but the surface of the table you lay it on, it helps if that is also anti-slip too. I put it on my plastic cooler chest lid because I needed a flat surface out in the field and it slid a little. But it won't slide if you put it on a wooden surface.

A high value sharpener!
This stone is 100% worth the buy regardless of whether you’re a beginner or experienced. I don’t know why I held off buying anything from work sharp for so long these stones are quality and hard to beat for the 50$ that I paid. I mostly use them for sharpening my pocket knives, I’m a collector and have around 50 or more ranging from 10$-200$. I have some High end steel which people say takes experience and time to sharpen the harder steels. I’ve found that even off of cheap gear I can get blades shaving sharp. These stones cut down the time is was taking me to sharpen everything. The fine stone alone is aggressive enough that it will put a nice edge on dull soft steel and then I found that on even the harder steels that had lost a bit of that paper slicing sharpness it will bring those edges back up to my standard with little effort. I have no complaints, only praise and I have already recommended this stone to friends.

GET IT!
Great sharpener! The pivot takes just a little getting used to but you’ll be thankful it’s there, keeping your edge level and on track. It’s a great tool!
