Wayne Thiebaud: A Paintings Retrospective

Gorgeous
I've loved Wayne Thiebaud ever since I was a kid, leafing through my dad's art books - and now that I bake so much I have an even deeper fondness for the crisp cake and pastry paintings. This book covers a wide range of Thiebaud's work, from food to portraits to landscapes (especially my favorites, the vertigo-inspiring San Francisco hills!), and all are reproduced in beautiful crisp prints. The book is big enough to give you clear images but not so big that it won't fit on a bookshelf. The narrative throughout is also well written, if you can ever bring yourself to read rather than just dreamily flipping through the images. If you're a Thiebaud fan, I suggest you get this book, I doubt you'll be disappointed!

Great Artist, Great Book, Perfect for a Collection
Thiebaud is one of my favourite artists, and I wanted to add a book of his work to my collection. I was looking for one that had lots of high quality, colour pictures, and this is the perfect one! It not only has the amazing pictures I was looking for, but a great biography, as well. The biography takes up about 1/3 of the book, and the rest is pictures of his work. It's a large book perfect for a coffee table. I was impressed by all the pictures, and the great colour. I would suggest this to any artist, or art admirer!

A great retrospective of Thiebaud's work
The book summarized the work of this important -- and still very active -- American artist. The book has a good set of reproductions that help illuminate his body of work. The introduction by Gopnik is excellent and worth reading in its own right.

If you like Thiebaud's work this is a great book
Ever since my painting teacher first showed me a book on Wayne Thiebaud I've kept my eyes open to find one for myself. Then I found it on Amazon at a discount, I just had to have it. Someone pointed out that the plates aren't quite as intense in color as the originals and maybe they are right but they are still beautiful. The cakes and pies are good enough to eat but the street scenes of San Francisco are breathtaking. I'm happy with my purchase.

Just simply beautiful
I think I have every Wayne Thiebaud book there is. I never tire of his work. This is a great book just to have or to have to study. He is a master of color, tone, and spacial relationships.

Great retrospective on a great artist.
This is a really nice book about Wayne Thiebaud. It has a lot of good, color illustrations of his work from the Pop Art to the recent works. It has a very informative well written text too.
