If you’re interested in the history of Britain, I highly recommend this book. Fantastic photos with concise descriptions of the history of the British Isles starting from the earliest human settlements up to current times. This is a treasure to explore as briefly or thoroughly as you like as the chapters are arranged chronologically.

Beautiful book. It would be even better if i could read it. The font is sized for those with exceptional vision.

Love DK books because of the illustrations! This is a great overview of English history. Not as strong on Irish, but that’s Ok. There are lots of Irish histories.

Like everyone else who purchased this book, I concur it is a very beautiful thing. But I bought it because I am FINALLY going to Ireland and England this fall and wanted an overview of the history of these two countries. But like at least one other reviewer on Amazon, I am getting on in years. I have excellent reading glasses that have always sufficed my needs in the past, but for heavens sake, this type size is for mice. In addition, the history section is in a lighter color and the layout of the text does not help make this an easy read. It is also oversized which makes it difficult to hold and read. Best to lay it down on a table. That said, the content is very good. The level of information is deep enough to get a full understanding of what happened but not so much that you are drowning in details. The color and B&W photos are wonderful…truly a joy to flip through from page to page. And while I do not regret buying this book, had I known how unwieldy it is to pick and read, plus the type issues, I most likely would have purchased another book.

The pictures in this book are absolutely beautiful,so many articles all about ENGLAND a coffee table for sure!

I could stare at each page! So much information, pictures, things to learn about. The book is a good size! Great for kids who love to look at the pages of books like I did when I was a kid. DK is stellar at creating publications that one can just absorb the knowledge. One of the best books I have in terms of detail and information about the UK.

I treasure this book, full of beautiful photographs, as an accompaniment to other history texts.

Great book, I have just started reading. The only problem is that the font size is too small.

DK have excelled in presenting a comprehensive yet easy to understand History of Britain and Ireland from the very first people right up to the present day. What makes this book stand apart is the detailed but clearly written essays on all manor of topics from the retreat of the last ice sheet right up until the recent expenses scandal all beautifully illustrated with high quality images. I also really like the images of all the objects - it is, as someone else has already said, like visiting a museum. A must have book for British History enthusiasts.
