the first unit i got could not open i believe it was damaged in transit. the seller fast tracked a new one and it has worked good for a long time now. the seller was very nice and helpful i would definitely recommend buying from him to everyonewhat you need to know is that they do work good but the case is extremely flimsy so it can be damaged really easyi mounted mine under my desk with Velcro so it is protected and easy to use but for the price they are well worth itdo not put the unit in a computer bag where any pressure can xfer to it it will warp the metal drive walls if anything hits itProduct Update ok everyone i bought this November 13, 2013 as of today 02-22-2015 it has been used 8 hours a day 5 days a week for well over a year and it is running perfect still i use it at work to burn data disks and watch dvd'sthis dvd drive has exceeded all possible expectations

I bought this product to replace the DVD drive that came with the desktop, but this product is NOT plug and play, despite what has been claimed. First of all, my desktop computer would not recognize it automatically. So, I loaded the little CD that came with it and asked the computer to run it since it didn't load automatically. The screen showed several options and I chose "install." The program came up written in Chinese and my computer (an e-machine, running on Windows XP) popped up with an a box type icon with a big question mark beside it. I removed the small CD from the drive and clicked on System/Device Manager and scrolled down to look for the device. I clicked on USB storage (just by intuition). The computer loaded the driver automatically and I waited until the Device Manager posted "Your device is working perfectly." I haven't tried burning anything yet since I'm out of empty DVDs. But so far, this device has been able to load all the software I needed to run. Even if it burns DVDs, the ratings of 4 stars stay. If it doesn't, then I'll update my review to 3-star. I hate it when I have to give less than 5 stars.

I purchased this drive hoping to use it to install and run programs. It worked fine for a day and half and installed three programs, however, when I went to run them, the drive stopped worked. My computer said it malfunctioned, and since then, it has stopped working entirely and only turns on for a brief moment when I first plug it in. It is not a good buy.

My old Dell laptop's DVD wore out this Summer. I needed a reasonably priced replacement and this seemed to fit the bill. It does exactly what I ordered it for and the price was right.

i bought two of the Slim USB 2.0 External Cd DVD RW+-Combo Burner, but one of them did not work at all!! I will have to return it to you, but since I am presently on vacation and won't be back to the USA until August 3rd, you will receive it after that date. My suggestion is: next time, I will personally greatly appreciate, if you can check the products you sell before you send them to your customers, this way you will have happy customers forever!!!ThanksLys Mendiburu

Windows 7 would not take the driver for this CD burner. Your advertisement listed Windows 7. I gave to another person who hasWindows XP. He say it works slowly, but he'll keep it.

I ordered this because I needed to reload a diskless netbook and didn't want to spend much. For that, mission accomplished. The netbook recognized the CD-ROM and I was able get the netbook restored.Now, since I purchased the drive I wanted to see if it worked on my other computers (we have 5 PCs in our house) so first I tried using it on my Windows 7 Professional machines, both of them refused to work with the drive, even after trying to update the drivers. However it DOES work on two laptops running Windows 7 Home. So it just seems to dislike Win 7 Pro; it comes with a CD labeled Windows 98 Drivers, but it had no effect getting it recognized.It's not what you call heavy-duty, it's just plastic, but for the price you can't beat it.All in all, this drive just fine, just be cautious if you are using it on a Win 7 Pro machine.

I needed this because my player stopped in my pc. It does what I need it to do. It's not going to get a lot of use, so I can't say how well it will hold up, but the drivers installed smoothly when I plugged it in and it was up and running very quickly.
