Fast and Portable External Drive
I picked up a SanDisk 1TB Extreme PRO Portable External SSD to replace a slow Western Digital My Passport Ultra drive (120 MB/s read and write times). I wanted a fast and portable drive that I could use to store my backup files as well as store and run Parallels Virtual machines from. This would save 100+ GB on my MacBook Pro SSD. I am very happy with the purchase so far. The build quality and device size is nice, it is simple to use, and fast. I didn't expect to see 1050 MB/s speeds, but was surprised (and happy) to see the 950 MB/s results. Real world file transfer speeds looked like they scaled appropriately based on the file size and file transfer time. Drive Tested: SanDisk 1TB Extreme PRO Portable External SSD Advertised speed: Up to 1050 MB/s (775% speed increase over WD My Passport Ultra) Highest actual speed: 950 MB/s (691% speed increase over WD My Passport Ultra) Host Device: MacBook Pro (15-inch, 2018) 2.6 GHz i7 / 16 GB / 500 GB / 560X macOS Catalina 10.15.6 (19G73) BlackMagic Speed Test Results (APFS Format, 1 GB Stress Setting): SanDisk Drive Connected directly to MacBook Pro Thunderbolt 3 port: 950 MB/s Read and Write MacBook Pro Connected to Dell Thunderbolt 3 Dock (WD19TB) SanDisk Drive Connected to the front USB-C 3.1 Gen 2 port of the Dell Thunderbolt Dock 900 MB/s Read and Write MacBook Pro Connected to Dell Thunderbolt 3 Dock (WD19TB) SanDisk Drive Connected to the front USB-A 3.1 Gen 1 port of the Dell Thunderbolt Dock 400 MB/s Read and Write Real World File Transfer Resuts: I copied from\to the SanDisk SSD that was directly connected to my MacBook Pro Thunderbolt 3 port. Excellent external SSD drive. Super-fast.
So I got this could be about a year ago or so to replace my then Time Capsule which was being used for backup but then began giving trouble backing up getting stuck in the process. I went with this because I know SanDisk to be a good brand and of course can't beat SSD drive-wise. The Time Capsule would you believe is still going strong after all these years which I continued using for its internal WIFI and internet router, but for backup the SanDisk 500GB Extreme PRO Portable External SSD is what is being used. I have to say it is super-fast, reliable and have no regrets thus far. It was money well spent.

Great size and lots of storage
After having horrible luck with regular hard drives, I had to move onto solid state technology for my photo backups. There is always a chance any drive can fail, but this type doesn't have moving parts like older drives do and at risk of crashing and issues. I love the small size and speed as well. If it works quite hard, you can feel it get warm, so it's best to keep that in mind, but I have not had an issue as yet.

amazing speeds
this is my second sandisk SSD. I was already quite happy with my Extreme SSD 500Gb from 2018, but needed larger capacity and faster speeds. I read the reviews and was tempted for a while with the samsung T7. However, I heard about throttling issues there, and decided to go for the Extreme Pro. my 700Gb backup was so quick I had to run it a second time and check files to see it for myself. The device is larger than the Extreme, a bit thicker, but still very pocketable and feels higher end and solid. The speed was simply amazing. Such a increase in productivity. Note that I have re-formatted on NTFS and installed the latest version of bitlocker for Windows 10 for security. I use auto-unlock. Thank you Sandisk!

Pretty decent speed for USB 3.1gen2, however QC could be better
Review for "Sandisk Extreme Pro Portable SSD 500GB E80": + Speed is pretty decent for this price point (reaching ~970MBps in both sequential read or write) + Not overheated; temperature under heavy use during benchmark still acceptable + Compact form factor; similar design to the previous model (E60) but with additional metal trim around edges + Two cables supplied instead of USB C to A adapter (1 short cable C-to-C + 1 short cable C-to-A) - QC from manufacturer could be better; item is factory sealed but trim around the logo looks chipped and faded in several places - Price is almost 50% higher than previous model (E60)

DO NOT confuse with Sandisk Extreme
Amazon has a mistake in their reviews. They have mixed reviews for the Extreme Pro with the Extreme. The Extreme Pro is almost twice as fast as the Extreme. The Extreme Pro has only been out a few months so reviews from 2018 are for the Extreme. The Extreme Pro is slightly larger than the regular Extreme, and will NOT fit in the cases Amazon suggests under "Customers also bought". You can easily identify which is which. The Extreme Pro has an orange metallic band around the perimeter, the Extreme is solid black. The Extreme Pro (using in Macbook Pro USB-c port) is wicked fast. Ideal for storing / transferring GoPro video.

It is small, fast and constant write, read speed. Working with mac pro very well encryption, formatting and APFS is great for it. What I didn’t like is the outside cover is tickling and collecting dust There is a problem registering the products serial number with SanDisk. I am waiting for them to solve.
