FOLLOW INSTRUCTIONS - GET GREAT TREES
Bought a pack of 12 of these babies a couple of years ago. Two of them reached partial maturity and died, but probably my fault because the rest are all thriving and some are over 20 feet tall. Yes, they are shipped as STICKS. Some reviewers went into a state of abject panic over this. JUST FOLLOW THE INSTRUCTIONS. I placed the sticks in a bucket, and added enough to cover about 3" of the bottom of the sticks. Within ten days or so, they started popping roots. I moved them to staging pots until the root balls were well developed, then popped them right into the ground. They are HARDY. We live in North Dakota. Extreme temperature swings, battering wind, punishing snow and ice. These trees have thrived through it all. Small animals do love to eat the soft bark off of juvenile trees, so make sure to surround or wrap them to prevent small animals from eating them up. Simply the easiest, simplest, no-brainer, fast growing shade tree on Amazon.

Great trees
I have five acres with no trees and these were a good option. I picked up four hybrid poplars from Lowe's and planted them which ran me about $30 a piece by growing them from cuttings this gives me more for my money. I look forward to planting them next season . My purchase through CZ grain has exceeded my expectations so far everything that I have ordered has grown and sprouted not a single bum cutting I would highly recommend this company. I ordered 10 hybrid poplars and received 13 all 13 have sprouted. Two of them took a little bit longer but will be put in soil this weekend. 11 are in soil recommended by CZ grain and are thriving. I ordered 10 hybrid Willows all have sprouted and are in the same soil that was recommended by CZ grain. I also ordered two Curly Willow cuttings and received four all four are rooting and leaves are sprouting so far everything is perfect with the purchase, and I am beyond happy. The picture above is one month after receiving the cuttings. Thank you so much CZ grain for fast delivery and viable cuttings. Update: still doing very well. 3rd picture is @ 4 months. 6 transplanted so far in 7 gal grow bags since they were outgrowing thier pots.

Keep them wet constantly.
All 10 were given the exact same treatment, likely more than most would. Grow tent with a 16 light/8 dark, heating mats, moisture meter daily, and checked regularly. 9 of 10 have sprouted and grew. 2 were killed by me not doing something right, guess I have a lot to learn. I will probably get another 10 in spring, these just got treated well over winter in a grow tent.

Died after planting
I received 12 trees. I rooted them in water for a couple months. 10 rooted. After roots appeared, I planted in small dirt pots and watered a lot - per the instructions. All of them died. I'm not really sure what went wrong. These poplar trees should have been ok in soil with roots and I never let them dry out. I may try again but let them root for even longer in water.

Do not fertilize when planting.
Ordered 20 cuttings 28 arrived all but 1 sprouted. Two years later, 19 are 6 ft tall, and the rest attained 2 to 3 ft. Planted as per instructions and am very pleased.

Waste of money
Barley even grew buds let alone roots to survive. Followed instruction they provided and not a one made it.

Yup - Fast growing Trees. Got some questions about pruning
Received twelve 8" (that's eight INCH) cuttings with instructions. Soak in bucket of water, let roots form, plant in soil. Pretty straighforward :-) I soaked them in water bucket for about 4 days, until all 12 cuttings had sprouted both roots and leaf shoots. Some had already put out 6" of leaf shoots. I prepared ten 10-gallon fabric grow bags with a mix of potting soil, sand, perlite and compost. I pruned off ALL the leaf shoots, leaving only the roots to receive all energy when transplanted to soil. Planted best ten. Took about 5 days before new leaf shoots began to push up, but they pushed up fast! I do have some questions for John at CZ Grain (hope he checks these reviews) - or anyone who has an opinion. All questions are about how to PRUNE these to ensure they grow to single trunk. Most of the cuttings put out several shoots at different heights - I've included some pictures with questions attached. These have been in soil about one month.
