with pretty much all the same features as Cisco IOS or ...
Tiny, inexpensive little package, POWERFUL router. Mikrotik's RouterOS is a fully enterprise grade network operating system, with pretty much all the same features as Cisco IOS or Juniper's JunOS, for a tiny fraction of the cost, and considerably easier to use. Then hardware is no slouch either. This thing kicks tail over any other "SOHO" grade router, having REAL routing and firewall functionality. The hardware can keep up with wire-speed Internet connections, with lots of entries in the connection tables. The OS comes with three different interfaces for configuring it: a web page (that's significantly faster than the web server in ANY other SOHO router I've ever touched.), a Windows GUI (that runs beautifully in Wine on my Mac) and a CLI accessible by ssh. It talks BGP, OSPF, can be a DHCP and DNS server (both caching and authoritative), S/NTP, etc. It understands LDAP and can be configured as a "captive portal", allowing you to set up an "open" Wifi that redirects users to a login web page, without having to distribute WEP/WPA keys (like many "public" wifi services in coffee shops, McDonalds, hotels, etc.) I got this one for my church, so church members will be able to get on wifi on their phones and tablets, without having to give out passwords or keys, without having to explain to less than tech-savvy members how to configure it, directing them to a church web page to agree to our "rules", and I can block off any sites we don't want people going to on the church's Internet connection. No extra software or expensive cache / proxy servers needed.

Huge Value.. psst.. don't tell anyone.. K!
Sweet. With RouterOS the choice is: EASY BUTTON or Home Schooling. The choice is yours. Shown in pics: 1 Horizontal menu on Quick Setup to CPE. 2 Horizontal menu with SMB configured. Stuck a 128 Fat32 USB into the device and shared a music folder, mapped to Window. Playing a tune in PotPlayer w/ transparency set to 10 so you can see the Webfig. Will very likely be the only brand I purchase from now on. Wish I had another star to give.

Really solid router
I've been using Mikrotik products for years now and they've never let me down. The price offsets the steep learning curve, and once you know these products, they pay for themselves many times over. **Be warned** There is no manual included, but there is a wealth of information on Mikrotik's site. If you do not have any network background, this product may not be for you. I would not recommend for the average home user.

Great product for the money
Using this a an AP to share the internet from my phone. Setup was pretty straight forward and it has been working great the last few days. Don't expect a fancy GUI like on consumer routers. I used online forums and the Mikrotik wiki to customize some of the settings, but everything was straight forward and easy to understand.

Amazing travel router
As with other MikroTik RouterBoard products, this is a great little router! I replaced my TP-Link travel router with the RB951Ui-2nD, and am very happy with it. I create a WiFi profile for the hotel or house that I am staying in while traveling, then broadcast my own WiFi network using a virtual WLAN interface. My laptop and phone save the private WLAN info, so all I have to do when I arrive at a new place is setup the new WiFi profile and connect to the new network (this does require using one of the Ethernet ports to connect to the router, but that isn't a show-stopper...I had to do similar setup with the TP-Link router). I also have a VPN connection pre-configured pointing to my home network that I can enable. The only complaint I have about this router (which applies to all of the current RouterBoard products) is that the MikroTik OpenVPN implementation doesn't work with most VPN providers (for example, most commercial VPN providers offer an OpenVPN configuration script so that you can connect a DD-WRT or similar router to the VPN service with minimal configuration. This does not work with MikroTik at the moment). NOTE: There is a new version of this router that offers 802.11AC compatibility - search for hAP AC Lite.

Not for the inexperienced
If you want an inexpensive router that does everything, then you'll love this Mikrotik. There have been security issues posted online about them, so take precautions when using. It's also definitely not for the inexperienced either. Doesn't come with instructions and/or support (hence why they're so cheap), but if you've done networking work before it should be easy to fumble through it.

Amazing for the price. Not easy to configure - but gives you full control.
Mikrotik has amazing products. This one is also one of them. I moved all of the networks I'm maintaining to mikrotik. For the price - this router is awesome. Pay attention - it has no 1G ports nor 5Ghz WiFi. If your internet speed is around 100Mbps or higher - buy a Gigabit Ethernet model. They are amazing.

COMPLETISIMO.
