Nintendo DS Lite Crimson/Black [video game]

I brought this as an early Christmas gift for my mother. She truly loves the DS lite. It works with no issues and the color is great.

I was raised without video games in my house, and my parents told me that if I wanted video games, I would have to buy them. That being said, it was 2012 and I was 16 before I got my first Gameboy (SP), and two years later, I decided to upgrade to a DS Lite. I love it! It is a vast improvement over the GBA, which is a sentence I never thought i would say, as I love my GBA. Right now, I only have one game on it (LEGO Harry Potter 1-4 (GREAT GAME)) but it's easy to see even from one day of playing it that it is superior to GBA. 3D games that have perspectives that change as you move around make for more realistic gameplay, and the graphics are sharper and smoother. I know that it being 2015, with the recent release of the 2DS, that the DS Lite is probably outdated, but I'd still recommend this system to anyone who is looking for a cheaper system that is still really good. Pros: -Adjustable screen brightness! I know this sounds lame, but it's a great feature, and it can help save battery, which leads me to: -Long battery life- I believe it is advertised at 19 hours, which is great. I recieved my DS from a used seller, and it came with a full battery, and I still havent recharged. By comparison, I've had to charge my iPod Touch 3 times in the last 48 hours. -Better, more complex games. With better computer power, comes the ability to produce better, more complex games. -Touch Screen ('nuff said) -Sleep setting when you close the lid- makes it easier to pause a game without losing battery Cons: -Stylus: it's not inherently bad, it's just easy to lose. I love the idea, but I live in constant fear of losing it. Overall, I think this is a great little system, and I will probably get rid of my GBA in favor of this, as the DS can play GBA games. Highly recommend!

The Nintendo DS. What more could one say? I'm going to try and rate this as objectively as possible. First off, this is by no means an adult gaming device. Anyone who is upset because it does not have TV out HD capabilities is playing with the wrong toy. You have to look at this product as it were geared towards children and the younger crowd. Many adults who purchase the DS feel that they have been ripped off. Well that's just the thing. Like I said, one has to see this as a youth oriented device. Anyways, now that we've cleared that up let talk about the DS itself. Graphics Game play Price Feature set. Graphics: Not great and it definitely would not be able to compete with the PSP, but If I remember correctly Edge magazine's top 100 games off all time features more games from the 2D era than anything else. Actually, out of the top ten 4 were 2 dimensional and the number 3 and 1 spot went to Mario 64 and Ocarina of time. Both these games were some of the first in the 3D world. So looking at it from that perspective, I'd say that graphics are outweighed by game play presentation and storyline. Plus new Super Mario bros is just plain goodness in a cartridge. Gameplay: Lets talk about Mario 64... The original Mario 64 relied heavily on the N64's analog joystick, so Mario 64 DS gives you a few different control options that attempt to emulate the control in different ways. By default, the game is configured to let you play without using the system's touch screen. The D pad is used for movement, and the buttons are used for jumping, ducking, attacking, and running. While you can also use the touch screen for running, the other two control modes are somewhat better suited for use with the touch screen, letting you shuffle the buttons around a bit to give you more control over your character. I think the methods incorporated for movement in this game are superb and could not have been mapped much better. This seems to go for all games. Most games that require the use of the touchpad and stylist are focus more on tactical elements rather than speed, which results in a more enjoyable game experience if you're not too quick with the stick. One issue I did encounter was after the touch screen got a bit scratched up it was not as sensitive. Plus those little stylists are so easy to loose. Price: Can't beat it. Can be found for under 100 dollars if you shop around. You're not going to find a cheaper way to entertain yourself on the go. The games are not too expensive either. Although, 30 bucks is pretty steep for anyone under 12. Feature set: I'd say for something as simple as a "Gameboy" it has a lot to offer. It has Wifi which can be a lot of fun with friends. Try playing Mario kart with 7 other people on their DS's and you'll know what I mean. Also the chat feature is neat if you have friends that have DS's as well. And a big bonus is the backwards compatibility with GBA games. There is a little cartridge spot to put old games in. Some of my favorite Mario games are still playable on the go cause of this. Other than that there are not a lot of features. But I wouldn't expect it to. Like I said before, If you're looking for a portable media center this is not it. The DS is a fun handheld (strictly related to gaming) that can keep you entertained for hours on end.

It works perfectly. I only got it for two of my games, Rune Factory and Pokemon Ruby because it was cheaper than a Game Boy Advanced and both games have broken cartridges

Purchased this for myself some time again and I'd have to say It's the best hand held I've ever owned. I've had all of the portables game consoles from nintendo and been disappointed with all of them,but I love this one so far. Not perfect in my opinion,but a great buy.Here is what I feel the pros and cons are. The Dual Screens. Love these things so far. I've been playing contra 4 a lot and love how game play is spread across both screens for a larger view. The screen are both bright and easy to see on. The Nintendo Wi-Fi. I haven't used this much yet,but it's cool not to have to use cables like the older gameboy systems. Touch Screen Technology. So far I've only used it with metroid prime,but it's a nice addition for hand held and something that's been a long time in coming. Microphone Port. Nice feature to have but I'll admit that I haven't messed around with this one yet. Rich Stereo Sound. This was one of my main gripes with the gameboy advance. The sound on the ds sounds great so far. I have to turn it down at work a lot of times so I don't get caught playing it. It's capable of cranking out some very good music. Backward Compatibility. I have a lot of gameboy advance games so this was a must. I can still play my older games and even choose which screen I want to play them on. Battery life is very good. I have to charge mines about every 4 or 5 days and I use mines a lot. Perfect for taking on trips. Fits in your pocket easily. I stick mines in my jacket pocket at work and my supervisor never notices it which is cool. Huge amount of games to choose form. I've had no problem so far finding games I like which was a problem for me on the gba. So far I have 4 and will be buying more soon. Cons You can't play gameboy or gameboy color games on it. You also can't change the button setting on gba games. Also you can only play those games in single player mode. Even though I enjoy the touch screen it seems some games would be easier to play with a standard control method rather than using the stylus,microphone or touch screens to play them. I've talked to many who don't like game play to be spread over both screens which is confusing for some. Some games don't give you the option to decide to use theses features or play the standard way. I'd love some rubber grips on the side of the thing for long gaming session. I really wish they had some method were you could lock the top screen in place. at times when I'm playing games it falls down on the lower screen and I have to adjust it again. Makes it a bit of a problem when traveling on a bus or car at times. I never really had this problem with gbc or the gba. the hinges crack to easy from regular use. Mines already has a small crack in it. All said though I'm really enjoying this thing and recommend it to any body looking for a great portable console. Not perfect,but nintedno is getting there and I can't wait to see what's next.
