Cute idea, only requires one day of work
I had no idea this existed. My 9 year old kept saying she wanted to invite her elves (yes, we have two- a girl and a boy) to her birthday party. Sure enough I found this product on Amazon. The price was good so I ordered it and it arrived 2 days later with Prime shipping. We read the book together to figure out what we needed to do to invite the elves and what to expect when they arrived for her birthday. I was able to go to the Elf on the Shelf website and send an invitation to the elves for Santa to approve. I was so relieved to just do it online. The elf (elves in my case) only come for one day, just the birthday, but they arrived on a chair which they decorate. I went to the dollar store and bought a balloon and some other decorations for the chair (see my picture). I split the little cupcake outfit between the two elves, but I know it would be super cute on just one elf. My daughter was so happy to see the elves (and I was happy to put them away after the one day!)I would recommend especially for the kiddos that still believe!

Elf on the Shelf Birthday Tradition and Birthday Chair Tradition
I thought this was a great addition to our Elf on the Shelf Tradition. The story instructs the child to send an invitation to their elf so that he can get permission from Santa to spend the child's birthday with them. On the night before the birthday the child sets out the elf's special birthday outfit. Santa blows his magic birthday dust on the elf so he can attend and show up the next morning. Since Elves are so tiny, they can't bring a gift so they do a North Pole tradition. The elf will pick a special chair and decorate it, whether it be using things in the house, making a scene with a giraffe or putting candy in a balloon. Then when the day is done he flies back to Santa (or I'm guessing stays if it's in December). The book and tradition was really cute and my 3 year old son loved it!!! We look forward to our elf Bernard visiting every birthday!

False advertisement.. this DID NOT included costume as stated. Now I don't have time to order another one elsewhere to get it in time.

A new tradition
My 3 year old daughter missed her elf, Snowflake after Christmas so when I saw this I knew her day would be made! I gave her the book a few days before her birthday and she loved the story. She was so excited for Snowflake to visit. I really love the idea of the "birthday chair", it's a tradition we will keep that made my daughter feel extra special. The cupcake outfit for the elf is very cute and festive. I felt like the story didn't have the same rhyming flow as the The Christmas tradition book, but my daughter loves it so I still give it 5 stars. I would recommend this to anyone who's kids love their Christmas Elf on the Shelf.

Elf On The Shelf birthday package
Gave this Elf on the Shelf birthday package to my granddaughter. It is adorable and she fell in love with it as soon as she saw it. It is a nice quality hat and cupcake suit. The hardcover book was a bonus that was fun to read as well

Kids are so gullible...
Kid who requests an elf and has a birthday in December gets an elf with a cupcake costume. She doesn't even know the book exists. I left it in the box because at some point it's going to become super obvious that this elf is from Hallmark, right? When she saw the elf, on her birthday, in a cupcake costume, she ran to get her tablet to take pictures for posterity. I'd say she definitely loved it. She was turning 8, I really thought the jig would be up by now.

Cute idea!
Super cute idea for any kids that are crazy about their Christmas elf. The costume is adorable and well made. Looks appropriate for either the boy or the girl elf.My only reason for taking a star off, is the book is a little over the top. In fact I threw it out so my kids would never see the book. I mean, seriously, write an invitation and then decorate a special birthday chair??? (oh and how convienent that sell a chair decorating kit). No, no, no.Our elf, Dave, just shows up in his birthday outfit. Done. Kids are thrilled.I searched and searched for any birthday outfit that I could buy separately so I wouldn't have to purchase the book. I did find a cute skirt for $6 on a homemade type website that rhymes with Betsy but I chose not to buy that for Dave. So I basically paid $20 for a cupcake outfit. But having Dave present for birthdays has been well worth it!
