Sizzix 656644 Texture Fades Embossing Folders Tim Holtz 2PK - Bricked & Woodgrain Set

I love almost all of the Tim Holtz products (seriously, I'm running out of shelf space). I generally try to buy his stuff at one of the local craft stores like Michaels, A.C.Moore, or Hobby Lobby and use one of the 40-50% discount coupons that the stores usually offer. The thing is, though, that they all just carry a limited sampling of the Holtz product line. That's why I love Amazon. The price for this one is pretty much the regular retail price...but, hey, they have it! Couldn't find it anywhere else. And I have found some pretty good discounts on the Tim Holtz and regular Sizzix product line on Amazon. Just have to keep looking.These embossing folders are great and have so many potential uses. I tend to use them as a part of mixed media projects. They look great tucked behind other pieces (photos, mementos, etc) in a shadow box. I make my own special tags for Christmas presents so they add an understated punch as the background. Sanding down the raised parts makes the image even more special. I've also embossed lightweight foils and then ran an inkpad over the raised impressions to make them stand out. I'll stop now...but really, I could go on and on.

This came up when I searched for the 3D, so I wasn't happy with the search function, but they work. (Not 3D kind of work though)

You take a plain card front or piece of paper and add some texture and it is no longer plain! Just think of the possibilities! Using the brick you can add graffiti style writing and have a fun bday card or a door and have a house or a mantle and have a fireplace! The wood the same add an owl or a heart out of a lighter color and it looks carved! I have fun with embossing folders! Oh the possibilities!

The prints are beautiful but the bricks folder is much harder to emboss deeply. Using the same type of paper and sandwich,,,,I use the Cuttlebug V2 machine...the wood grain folder cracks the paper in some places but the bricks folder barely made 1/3 of the marks. So I ended up adding 3 sheets of bed bath and beyond coupon flyers...pretty thick flyer....as shims in order to get a good embossing print. As a result of the shallow raised print, it makes inking to the folder without making a mess so much harder. As for inking to the paper, I used the retangle block that separates the folders in the package and that works well...inking the lengthy side of the block.

I bought this set for the brick folder in particular. The pattern is clear and crisp and has a bit of a vintage feel. Looks even better when you use ink to stain the edges.

I really like the brick. I didn't want the wood, as I already had two different bark embossing folders. Wish it wasn't a bundle, but oh well, I guess I will have to do a layout with three different types of bark.I inked the brick folder, and it looks better with die cuts on top of the inked brick. Alone, the brick looks lovely and can be an embellishment on a scrapbook page.

I love the textures especially the distressed brick embossing folder. I wish the folders were larger, they are A2 card size but the embossing is so deep, it adds dimension and looks great. I also wish Sizzix, with Tim Holtz, would create a distressed brick embossing folder that fills the card the other way (the longer width). I am happy with my purchase and I do recommend these folders and all Sizzix products.

I was a little disappointed with these. I love the designs, but the impression is not as deep as I would like. I also found the folders to be very thin. Not at all the quality I expect from the Sizzix brand.
