really nice set! worth the price.

First, you have to take out that clear plastic piece thing that's inside. Mot sure what its for, but remove it. Then get the ink cartridge..insert it facing down towards the pens nib. Push it in till it punctures that cartridge. You'll feel it "click"...then, let the pen stand up so the ink will flow to the pens "nib," ( which is the part that writes where the ink comes out if the tip) If it isn't coming out right, shake the pen like you would a thermometer to get the ink down there. The instructions are pathetic. I had to just use common sense. That plastic part inside the pen must be for some other way of loafing ink, I dont know. Keep them tho. The orage one is the best for Calligraphy. The widest nib is too wide and the ink skips. The others are ok. I think these are beginner pens. I think 24 bucks fir them is a little too much. 12 to 15 bucks is more like it. Try to buy them on sale. I think the orange pen works best. I think using a pen to write, especially in a beautiful way, has been something awesome list because of stupid computers and typing. Everone should be taught to have beautiful handwriting. Just as nothing can replace a actual paper book, so nothing should replace actual handwriting. Parents, teach your kids to practice writing, writing letters and sentences and having beautiful handwriting.

Great for practicing calligraphy they don’t drip and don’t leak

Very poor quality product. I’m glad I was very careful and covered the surface where I was working, because all but two of the pens were flawed and leaked ink everywhere. The two that didn’t leak were spotty - the ink didn’t flow evenly- and the ink dried down very pale and washed-out looking. I ended up throwing out the entire set.

For the price they are good pens, but the nib is very low quality nib. The ink may at times stop flowing when between writing sessions takes a bit to get the ink to flow again then it works fine. The ink that comes with the pens is very watery so not a constant flow of link but rather makes for some parts of text you write are deeper in color than other parts. Noticeable with the lighter colors. The pen is very light in your hand feels like a cheap pen, well it is one. I purchased a 9 dollar pen that is just as good as a 50 dollar pen, this pen does not reach this quality of a pen. It is good for beginners but so good for more experienced writers. If your not really serious about using fountain pens this is a good product for you. If you are Serious about calligraphy and a good pen. I would not recommend this one.

These pens are awesome. I'm well versed in calligraphy, but they are a nice set for a newbie to the art. And the best part is my left handed twin sister, who insists that she can't do calligraphy, can actually write in calligraphy with these pens. Now if you don't have patience, I don't suggest using these pens because some of them do take a bit of time to intially have the ink start. And the cleaning process takes patience too. But overall, I love em as a quick set with a great selection of colors!

*DISCLAIMER: MY EXPERIENCE WITH THIS SET IS PROBABLY NOT UNIVERSAL!!* The pen set was visually lovely, although I must admit the packaging made it a bit less…glamorous? The box has a magnetic closure, which I love, but the pens are nested in foam that doesn’t hold them well, cartridges were in cheap cardboard boxes, inserted seemingly at random, difficult to figure out what I had. I should have realized at this point that the product I’m dealing with might not have the quality I was hoping for. Undaunted (i.e. without learning anything), I started taking the pens apart and inserting the ink cartridges. I put the first one in, and it seemed successful, so I was happy. The instructions said it could take a long time for the ink to reach the nib and to store them upside down, so I did that. I proceeded to put the second cartridge in the next pen…and the metal nib fell off the end of the pen, and ink immediately dribbled onto my fingers and onto my shirt. I immediately stooped and switched gears to cleaning up, which was essentially a waste of time. (On a positive note, the ink is definitely permanent!). I started to reassemble the set for return. I grabbed the “upside down” pen, and although I’ll never know why, for some reason, I TOOK THE CAP OFF. (Mea culpa.) The cap was full of ink, and the end of the pen was dripping…down my hand, and onto my new shirt, AND got the pants this time too! 🙁. The photo above is of my fingertips TWO DAYS post incident, after repeatedly washing my hands, using various mechanical means such as a surgical scrub brush, and trying several different solvents, including chlorine bleach, stain remover, isopropyl alcohol ranging from 70-99%, and various and sundry cleaning products, including Barman’s Friend. (Folks, I really wanted the ink gone. I’d already thrown away the clothing as a lost cause.). It did my skin no favors, and the stains remain. They are here for a while, but it serves to remind me that I get what I pay for! (This set was indeed purchased because I’m a complete beginner, and it was cheaper than comparable sets I looked at.) I FREELY ADMIT MY EXPERIENCE MAY BE A ONE-OFF. When mass producing things, you can’t quality control every item, and there are errors. Or maybe the metal “sheath” at the end of the nib is SUPPOSED to come off. But in my defense, the included instructions, while clear and understandable, were extremely limited. Essentially, “Take pen apart, insert cartridge (facing the right way), press firmly, reassemble.” Didn’t say anything about the “extra parts” that came inside the pen, and which I discovered only when disassembling. I closely inspected, made absolutely sure they were not supposed to be used in conjunction with these cartridges: there is no way both would have fit together, or both fit in the pen barrel. I came to the conclusion they were refillable inserts for use with jars of ink, like the ones used with old quill pens. Which is awesome, to be able to use prefilled cartridges OR your chosen ink pot! But although I’m pretty sure I’m right, it is just a guess, since I’m a beginner, and the instructions were entirely mute on the subject.). The pens would have been very fun to use, I think, and I actually hope that other people give these a try and prove me wrong, but I DO encourage the reader to have plastic sheeting/rubber gloves/raincoat or already stained clothing prepared before proceeding.
