Insight Guides are the best
When we begin dreaming of a new adventure in some far away world, we always look first at Insight Guides for a good overview that fills our senses with the sights, sounds, history and beauty we will find there.

Helpful guide
Bought for a friend going to Tanzania this summer. She said it was helpful.

Basic knowledge
This was a bit more history vs actual suggestions. Glad I read it though. Does give lists of accommodations, but doesn't really make suggestions or opinions on what is better.

Good introduction, but lacks detail
I'm surprised to see all the five-star reviews for this book. It's a good introduction, and the color photos are helpful, but it is severely lacking in detail compared to the Lonely Planet Tanzania guide. To give you an idea of the differences, I breezed through the entire Insight Guides book in one evening, but it took me a day and a half to get through the Lonely Planet book. I also feel like this book devotes too many pages to topics like history and culture rather than what travelers need to know. I understand those are interesting to learn about, but they won't help you plan your trip, which, after all, is the whole point of a travel guide
