A Must for Converting Non-DPR Slot Cars to Scalextric Digital Format
These things work very well. You use them to convert non-DPR, or just about any modestly-powered slot car, to run on Scalextric Digital tracks. Installation is a bit tricky. You must have at least rudimentary soldering skills and a suitable (somewhat low-wattage) soldering iron to install them.

Works well enough for somethings but has some drawbacks for others.
Without having read any others on amazon or elsewhere will say that this is the only chip scaly makes now for their non dpr toys. Previously they had a larger 7006 available but use of dpr has eliminated it (some popular scaly cars being reissued now as dpr.) It should not be used with faster amp draining motors and strong magnets thus some brands may require an alternative chip and it does not support headlights and do not even consider installing it in a current vintage f1 unless you can do electronic chip surgery (no dpr available for them either) . The lead wires to the motor are shorter than I usually use, so don't plan on removing wires from motor end. I normally plan chip location first with 1st priority given to electronic eye, before cutting guide to motor wire. Yes you can lengthen eye with a lot of soldering skills but best to avoid. You do get black guides with the chip, required for use with digital lap counters and thus you can save the blue ones that came with the older cars for only analog use on others not going digital. You must solder chip in so it normally takes 8 pre solder wires and then 4 combining wires. Yes you might get lucky with a smaller car that has short guide to motor distance to reduce number but plan on doing 12. The instructions come as a general guide with limited instructions for each possible kind of scalextric toy available and a separate drawn black and white guide that is poorly labeled. My advice is study it for which pics apply and open up the car to see where color wires run then match it to the instruction manual. If you get it wrong, car will run backwards so just resolder. Yes they must know instructions are poor by now. Make sure you tape the soldered wires well because if they touch metal afterwards you will blow the chip and your money. Ok if you need a more powerful chip that can take about anything, buy the slot it which will cost you about twice as much and make the chip location more of a puzzle due to electronic eye. Any relocation of eye will require soldering skill beyond mine. However they will handle head lights. Hope this helps because I have installed over a dozen scalextric chips in indys and nascars. Never easy like dpr chips but they do work if done right. One last thing - never buy used chips because after taking an hour or so to install you do not want to find a dead one was resold to you.

Great way to upgrade your analog cars
I bought two of these, one each of the C7005 & C7006 and I need 15 more! The C7005 is for the open body cars (eg Formula 1 style) and I have 4 or 5 of these to do. I put a C7006 in a saloon car first but the formula one car was a little trickier. Because there is less space in these cars the LED transmitter is not mounted directly onto a PCB so you need to make your own mount. I used their suggestion though using a washer from one of the car display cases. The trickier part was getting the main PCB in the car and I had to cut a piece of plastic to make it work, although the cut is not visible once you re-assemble the car. So 2 cars down, but I think each one will be a little easier!

Perfect for my application.
I am building a couple of custom digital slot-cars. I needed the detached LED to work in the chassis and mount to a custom 3d printed platform. These are exactly what I needed. Thanks!
