Gf Gel Topcoat Satin Pint- General Finishes,Topcoat Satin,Pint

This topcoat is really easy to apply and seals like a dream! I love the finish it's given my woodwork and furniture. It's not too shiny, but just glossy enough that it looks really fresh. I would definitely encourage the user to use a sponge to apply it to avoid streaks, and warn you that a little goes a long way. It also says to sand and apply more coats, but in most cases I only did one coat. It sands away super easily so those I did more than one coat on I barely sanded. It's a little spendy, but worth it because I love the stain that goes with it. It does have a fairly strong smell, however, so open a window or use a fan if you're sensitive to smells!

I have used this top coating for 15 years and it always surprises me with its excellence. Be sure to date the cans and properly dispose of old stock. I use a lint-free cloth to apply the coating and another lint-free cloth to remove excess. It will usually take about 3 to 4 coats to get the desired results. I prefer the Satin gloss for the 18th century reproductions that I build. Be sure to wear a half-face respirator since the fumes are quite noticeable and not good for your health. I would like to see a similar water-based top coat that could be applied in a similar manner with the same results.

I LOVE this gel stain. I first used it on our banisters to turn our orange wood color to a dark Java and loved it! Then we did our mantel and our kitchen cabinets and everything looks so elegant! I am doing our dresser next lol. The best part I have found is that actually no sanding is needed and you don't even need to wipe it off. It goes on more like paint and my banisters are holding up perfectly after 2 years. (don't forget the top coat!)

This antique table was caked with old stain and varnish. This is after dozens of hours of stripping and sanding, then gel stain and one application of GF gel topcoat. It goes on so easily and smooths out like a dream. It looks even more amazing after three coats. Cannot wait to reassemble the parts. I will use GF gel topcoat from now on. Highly recommend; superior product.
