9 y.o's new favorite toy!
Disclaimer: The following review was written by my 9 1/2 y.o. son. He just got this for Christmas less then a week ago. The ultimate Optimus Prime is a great toy. It has 3 modes which are power up mode, robot mode, and vehicle mode. In his power up mode, he has a giant gun that flips on the back and his wings can go in just about any direction. It appears that the plastic is not going to last very long. It already has some white marks from it being transformed. I would recommend this toy for kids who can follow a lot of directions. I am 9 and it took me 1.5 hours to transform it the very first time. Now I can do it in about 15 minutes. But it comes with 70 steps in all. I will try and attach a picture of the directions so you can see exactly how long it is. By the way, the gun has lights and sounds...it doesn't actually shoot anything out.

He couldn't have been happier!!!
This is something that my grandson (12) had wanted quite a bit and I purchased it for his Christmas gift. From the moment he opened the package, his eyes lit up. My personal observation is that the toy is quite well built and is impressive in it's construction. When in vehicle mode, the thing looks like an 18 wheeler with Trailer, as it should.. When in character mode, it also looks like it should. It is the first week of Jan as I write this, and he has had some time to play with it. It appears to be somewhat durable (he hasn't broken part of it yet), and he is still not bored with the thing.. BTW, it isn't all that easy to construct or change from one mode to another, so any kid under 10 or so would probably have problems following the directions... it is quite complex. Many adults might struggle with it, (inc me), but if it was easy, most kids would not get the challenge of assembling this behemoth. But to sum it up, the satisfaction with it as a toy is high. Your child will not be dissapointed. I gave it 5 stars for educational because it is an educational process to assemble the thing.

Transformers
This is so big and awesome. I would say that we only collect these toys so I can not really give an accurate assessment of the durability of this item. It is extremely large and make sure you have plenty of space for it. It comes apart for the expand arms and the transformer itself is not all that big but it is a really awesome collection if you love transformers.

Hands down the best Optimus prime ever made
Hands down the best Optimus prime ever made! I spent probably 20+ hours researching different Optimus' for my son, watching you tube videos, reading reviews, and having owned this for going on a year.... It rocks!!!!!!! Very Sturdy, extremely well made, wonderful detail, super fun!!!! Worth it!!!

Christmas ruined!!
Very excited to give Ultimate Optimus Prime for Christmas until the shoulder broke removing toy from box. The flimsy plastic door hinge snapped upon removing the action figure from box. Christmas morning melt-down insues as this was the ONLY toy he wanted for Christmas. As usual Transformers have "break away" parts that can be re-attached, however, this piece does not re-attach. Now the toy will never have a passenger side door. The action figure is designed for 5 year olds!! Ya right. My 5 year old never even touched it before it was broken forever. $60 piece of garbage. I have purchased over 30 different Transformers for all ages and this particular toy is constructed horribly with very poor engineering. The first generation of the new Transformers (Bumblebee, Star Scream, etc) were constructed to withstand some abuse. The most recent generation (Dark of the Moon) have all been garbage. I guess he can continue to play with my Transformers from the 80's. I am trying to find a way to explain to my son why we will not be purchasing any more Transformers with out him hating me.

Best Toy Ever
This toy is great. The year we bought it it was so hard to find it was so popular. That was my son's favorite present that Christmas. This is a more complex transformer to transform so if you or your child isn't really good with transforming then it might to be right for you.

Great fun, but can we transform it??
Well, this is what my 6 year old REALLY wanted for Christmas. He is big and impressive and 6 year old is very happy. Since this is not our first Transformer I won't even bother with trying to transform it, although he does come with a HUGE page of instructions. I have never yet found a Transformer who is easy to transform. A+ to Amazon for giving a good deal before Christmas, I was able to snag him for $54.99, not bad.

Amazing
Was a gift for my son who has loved transformers since he was a child. He enjoyed every minute of the technical detail and workmanship as he sat by the tree and transformed it into a truck. No matter the age, if there is a passion for creativity, the parent appreciates it, the "child" loves it. BTW ,I really cant imagine a younger child doing this, but the buyer should know the abilities of the intended recipient.
