Squids Will Be Squids

This book is hilarious. It is so snarky. I'm a big Jon Scieszka fan, have been since I was little, and want my son to have his books. My son is 6 and understood most of the humor in this book, but he is an old soul. I'd say this book would be better suited for 8 and up. The tales are hilarious, the humor is unique, and the artwork is AWESOME. The book is made up of numerous stories, about 2 pages long each. The characters in all of them are crazy looking...almost Tim Burton-like. The stories are enjoyable for both kids and adults. Overall this is a really fun book for anyone who likes off-the-wall humor.

I already own this book, but I love it so much I ordered one for my 9 year old granddaughter. I got her hooked on Jon Scieszka, so I thought she'd enjoy it. I was right...she loves it! The humor is appropriate for her age, although adults probably "get" it even more. Some of the short stories make me laugh out loud no matter how often I read them.

Book is new and is great as I remember reading to my kids years ago

this is really a funny book, enjoyable for all ages. Mom and Dad both enjoyed some of the fables about homework. My son chuckled at the silly boy jokes, even though he doesn't like to read books that much. I'm hoping to add it to some other family members' collections.

I bought this for my kids when they were young and quickly decided that it was one of my favorite books. Now that my kids are grown, they still enjoy it, probably even more. If you like tongue-in-cheek humor, you will love this. The fables are all really quick reads but you won't be able to put it down, you'll enjoy it that much. My favorites are 'Duckbilled Platypus vs. Beefsnakstick ®' with it's moral - 'Just because you have a lot of stuff, don't think you're so special' and 'Gee . . . I wonder' with shark, wasp and bacteria. Each fable has a moral which really can be used to teach kids but, really, buy it for the guffaws.

I don't really understand the reviews here: firstly, who says that "children's books" are only for children? If you (the adult) enjoyed it, seems like money well-spent to me. Secondly, there seems to be a large number of humor-challenged adults and children. My wife and I (who are not children) think it is funny, and so does our two year old son, who also LOVES Cowboy and Octopus , which has the same sort of off-kilter sensibility. The comments that the "morals are not appropriate" are really strange to me -- the morals are the punchlines to what are extended jokes (which are funny, because the authors are quite observant).

This is one of our faves. Got it for my 7 yes old and we enjoyed reading the fun stories. This author is great and definitely check out other books by the same.

I bought this book for my grandson over 20 years ago and now again for my great grandson. A little hard for a 6 yr old to read on their own, but perfect to read to them and talk about life lessons. This is a very good book.
