I am so sad! I waited two weeks for this disk to arrive, and unfortunately it isn’t compatible with any of the players in the US, it turns out. I tried it on multiple systems. This is the only reason I give it one star. It came well-packaged, and was in pristine condition when it arrived. I just can’t watch it now. So sad!

In 2012, a famous fashion designer Christian Louboutin was invited to create a show for a Paris cabaret Crazy Horse. “Feu: Crazy Horse Paris” feature the musical pieces of the collaboration that was specially performed before the camera, with Louboutin appearing as a sort of guide of the whole show. So “Feu” (meaning “fire”) is more like a visual record of dancing than a documentary, just like Wim Wenders’ “Pina” does, which beautifully captured the dance of Pina Bausch’s dance company. In both films, dancers talk before the camera. (And both films were shot in 3D.) The difference is that in “Feu: Crazy Horse Paris” dancers are all bare-breasted females. The dancing footage – numbers like “God Save Our Bareskin” (regular opening act featuring Royal Horse Guards played by half-naked dancers), “Voodoo” “Legmania” “Upside Down” etc. – are all unique and beautifully choreographed. Some look more like leg-dancing. After all, this is guest-created by Christian Louboutin best known for his designs for shoes. But I wasn’t impressed with the film itself very much partly because I found the editing a bit too fast. I thought the camera should have shown more extended sequences. Also, what Louboutin and the dancers say before the camera is not very interesting. “Feu: Crazy Horse Paris” is a visually intriguing documentary, but don't expect beyond that.

Die DVD >Feu< ist recht aufwändig und repräsentativ mit Booklet und einem kleinen Poster in einen Karton-Schuber verpackt. Sie enthält 12 Ausschnitte aus einer von Christian Louboutin gestalteten Revue des Crazy Horse /Paris, verbunden durch kurze Statements von Louboutin und jeweils einem der Girls. Indem die Anfänge der Revue-Stücke mit Kapitelmarken versehen sind, lassen sich die Statements (dabei allerdings auch jene der halbnackten Girls) ggf. überspringen. Die Gesamtlaufzeit der DVD beträgt etwa 75 min, die reinen Revue-Stücke machen davon etwa 60 min aus. Die 2D-Bildqualität der Standard-DVD ist exzellent (zur 3D-Ausstattung der BD vgl. ggf. andere Rezensionen). Als Tonspur sind das französische Original, ggf. mit deutschen Untertiteln, oder eine deutsche Synchronisation wählbar. Als Extra gibt es den etwa eine Minute langen Kinotrailer des Films. Christian Louboutin ist als Edel-High-Heel-Schuh-Designer bekannt. Einschlägige Liebhaber seien jedoch fast gewarnt, und der Mainstream sei beruhigt: Einzelne Revue-Stücke sind zwar Bein-, Fuß- und Schuh-betont, in Summe handelt es sich aber um eine >ganz normale< Crazy Horse Revue, in der auch die übrigen Assets der Mädchen ausreichend zu bewundern sind, dabei verknüpft mit einigen filmischen Effekten, die auf der Theater-Bühne so wohl eher nicht darstellbar waren. Manche Stücke, etwa das traditionelle Exerzieren >God Save Our Bareskin< zu Beginn oder die >Lecon d Erotisme< mit der Lippen-Couch wurden aus früheren Revuen übernommen. Aus meiner Sicht positiv hervorzuheben ist, dass die Lichteffekte, für welche das Crazy Horse seit langem bekannt ist und welche mit dazu beitragen sollen, die partielle Nacktheit der Girls in Kunst zu verwandeln, in dieser Revue etwas sparsamer verwendet wurden als in früheren Aufzeichnungen. Auch die Statements zwischen den Bühnen-Stücken empfand ich als interessant und haben in mir ein besseres Verständnis und auch Anerkennung geweckt für die Beweggründe hinter der Leidenschaft des diesmaligen Gestalters und für jene der Tänzerinnen. FAZIT: Echte Revue-Kunst, vor der ich mich verneige, dabei für intellektuelle Gemüter wohl sicher dennoch (oder vielleicht gerade deshalb?) ausgesprochen anregend und erotisch.
