Great Roomba 980 replacement battery w/ long cleaning times
12/31/2021 Update: It’s been almost 2 years now and this battery is still giving me 1.5 hours of cleaning time. We are down to one Roomba now and have it clean 900 sq/ft 4 times a week. It just finished a job today where it ran for 1 hour 35 mins on a single charge cleaning the entire 900 sq/ft. We were on vacation for a month and the roomba got stuck. It went dead and sat for 3 weeks. I thought the battery would be unrecoverable as it wouldn’t charge giving me an error 8. I took out the battery, let it set for an hour and then put back in and placed back on the charger. It charged the battery and has the same battery life I had before. Can’t complain! 6/28/2020 Update: I have 2 Roomba 980’s both with this battery and very pleased with them. They have been 5 mos since my last purchase and 8 mos since the prior. Both batteries are running in 980’s and the battery over time has increased cleaning time. I’m consistently getting 1:45 on each of them before needing a charge and has been holding steady. The key for me was performing the full reset on the robot and then remove/replace the batteries. After going through a number of poorly made replacement batteries, I finally found some that last. 2/21/2020 Update: Replaced the battery in my second Roomba 980 last month with another Melasta. I reset the Roomba to defaults and did the battery remove/replace. I’m consistently getting 1:20 to 1:30 mins out of it. Quite happy with these batteries. 11/11/2019 Update: Resolved the 60 minute recharge by resetting my Roomba to defualts and then pulling the battery and putting it back in. Now Roomba runs for about 1 hour & 20 mins prior to needing to recharge and this with all of the default settings. In regards to the torn tape handle, it really is not an issue, just a quality thing. Melasta reached out very concerned with it offering to send me replacement tape plus sent instructions on how to replace it. Definitely giving Melasta an "A" for their proactive support!!! Original Review: After 2 weeks of using this battery, the performance is right where I would expect it to be. I have a Roomba 980 and when I replaced my old battery, it was not lasting more than 10 minutes even with the most eco friendly options. In order to make sure I was getting the most out of the new battery, I performed a full reset on the Roomba and configured as a new device leaving all of the settings at default (Power Boost, Auto Cleaning Passes, Edge Clean...). I have a mix of about 60/40 carpet/hardwood floors and after 2 weeks, the Roomba will run for 60 mins and return to the base for a charge. Seems like maybe a limit on the Roomba to run for 60 mins and then return to base to charge, but that is just a guess. The battery fit is much like the oem and if I had one thing to complain about is the tabs to pull the battery out. They are like a piece of thin duct tape folded over. Works fine but mine came with a little cut in one of them at the battery edge which didn't change anything, but hope it doesn't become a future issue. I will monitor this battery for another month and update this review.

Upgraded Roomba 563 with this battery. Reviewing after ~60 days of use. No Issues
Summary: I do recommend this battery to others. The capacity is overkill for the 563 due to the 60min clean cycle. If your Roomba can easily find your docking station, then go with a lower capacity. If your Roomba gets lost and is often looking for its dock for more then an hour, then this is the battery for you. Initial Concerns: - I noticed the output voltage was slightly different then NiMh battery. Outcome: It is normal due to different battery type. No issues with the slightly higher voltage and don't expect it to impact the life of the Roomba. Recommendation to Roomba owners: For the 500 series, Roomba I highly recommend taking apart the Roomba if you feel comfortable doing so. The gearbox gets so clogged up with dirt and wears out the plastic gears. When I replaced my battery, I did a deep lean of my Roomba, cleaned out the gear box, and oiled it. Roomba's flawed design with NiMH batteries in my opinion for a consumer standpoint: First off, Roomba has newer models that use Lithium Ion Batteries, so this negative applies to 563 cleaning logic. NiMh batteries gain a memory when discharged to the same point over a number a charges. The 'memory' is referring to a behavior of the battery chemistry and not the Roomba software. The battery forms a 'memory' on how far it drained before charged and then when you exceed that point in the future, the battery starts to cut out. This is why NiMh battries should be discharged before they are charged (usually done by the charger, my assumption is the roomba doesn't do this). After battery capacity will decrease with use, resulting in the Roomba going past the 'memory' point and stopping, asking to be recharged. Considering that the roomba seeks the docking station at 60min as its max cleaning time, buying larger capacity NiMh batteries are a bit pointless because of the 60min docking time creating a pattern that can cause the battery to gain a memory. Lithium-ion batteries don't gain a 'memory' and can be recharge at an time. Experience: Due the the Roomba having a 60min clean time before it starts looking for a docking station, this battery capacity is rather overkill for the 563 series. For this reason, a lower capacity Lithium-ion battery may suit your needs better if your roomba often finds the docking station quickly. I like the longer capacity as it means the Roomba can get lost for an hour or so looking for the docking station while it continues to clean. I think I unplugged the docking station and it ran for more then 4 hours before I stopped it and put it on the station. Due to this being a different battery type, the circuity adapts the Roomba charging behavior to that compatible for Lithium Ion. For this reason, the charge indicator light may not be accurate when charging. With greater capacity comes greater charging times. Will this impact you, likely not. The first charge took me over 4-7 hours, however after that, it only needs to charge what it used up, so charging time wont be as long. Due to battery age over time, I'm expecting to get 3-5 years out of this battery without having to worry about it randomly shutting off like bad NiMh batteries with a memory do. Installation: Very simple for the 563 model. Like 5 screws, remove the bottom, old battery pops out, slide the new one in. screw back together, done. It will be the same installation method for any battery replacement of your model in question. Look up how to change your battery for your given Roomba model before buying this item. Notes: - I didn't dismantle the battery to formally test each cell and there capacity, so my assumption is that the battery capacity listed on the product is correct. Based on how long my 563 roomba ran, I have no reason to question the stated capacity. - Each roomba model has different power consumption behavior. Look at your existing advertised capacity and choose a battery here that is greater or equal to that.

You get SO MUCH extra run time! (just not for long)
I bought two of these batteries for two different Roomba models. Everything started out great. The bots ran for what seemed like forever on a single charge. Then they started to have problems. Within a few months they didn't run as long anymore, but what was more annoying is that the power level dropped so quickly in the batter that the bot couldn't make it back to it's charging station. That meant I had to repeatedly pick it up and place it back on its charger, which isn't hard but can be a little fussy to get the position right for the contacts to line up. Within 4 or 5 months, one bot would make it only about 10 feet from the charger and the other would barely finish backing up. The description of the battery describes a theoretical life cycle of about 800 charges. The batteries are, today, a year old. I have my bots vacuum 2 - 3 times week. That's 100 to 150 charge cycles. This is not what the marketing indicated. I don't care that the description is carefully worded to avoid actually meeting that specification. Hinting at 800 charges and failing to delivery even 25% of that amount is misrepresentation. And the fact that it was the same issue occurring on two bots of different models makes me realize that it was not a one-off problem.

Functions well in my Roomba 880
I viewed this item with a little bit of trepidation; after all, lithium ion batteries have a questionable reputation. On the other hand, I did not want to be a technical Luddite so I decided to accept the risk and power my Roomba up until the year 2030. This battery drops in, fits correctly, and exhibits no abnormal thermal functionality as far as I can tell. As far as Rumba's opinion; she has never had so much fun before: speeding around the room, able to jump on and off the carpet, and now she makes it back to the dock without difficulty every day.

Initially, this is a great battery. I noticed increased capability from my 630 and it always completed its jobs, never dying from a low battery before ending the job. This was a great improvement over the stock battery. 7 months later, I thought that the battery was dying on me and I couldn't recharge it anymore. After taking the base station apart and looking it over, I found a blown capacitor in the circuit that was causing the problem. I replaced the capacitor and everything is working great again! So overall, this battery has been working fairly consistently for the last 11 months or so and continues to excel with greater longevity in my Roomba. It covers a lot of ground and always seems to make it back to the base station.
