A Simple and Effective Tyre Depth Gauge and Highly Recommended!
A simple but effective and reliable Tyre Tread Depth Gauge that displays the result in millimetres (mm). This is manually operated, no batteries required which negates that Oh So Irritating 'Flat Battery' issue. You set the display to zero by placing the flat base of the gauge on a flat surface and press down on the round button on the top. I have found that, if required, slight adjustment can be obtained to display zero by pushing the button all the way down with one hand and with your other hand, slightly twist the probe that protrudes from the underside of the gauge. You then carefully place the base of the gauge directly over the centre of the tread groove ensuring that: 1. The area of the groove that you are measuring does not contain one of the tyre's built in depth markers. 2. You realise that the depth probe on the underside of the gauge is offset from centre, so ensure that the probe is directly over the centre of the groove. 3. The flat base of the gauge is kept flat against the tyre. 4. Repeat the measurements across the width of the tyre and at least every quarter around the circumference of the tyre. The depth of the tread will be shown on display which is marked in 0.1mm increments. The current legal UK limit is 1.6mm. anything below that is shown as red, 1.5mm - 3.0mm is shown as yellow (caution/monitor) and above 3mm is green...... Simple! The gauge comes with a small black fabric pouch, however it offers only minimal protection, especially to the fragile looking face of the gauge. I therefore tend to store the gauge within the plastic packaging it arrived in. It is difficult to 'prove' that the displayed tread depth reading is 100% accurate and bear in mind that some tread tyre grooves are not necessarily level across the groove, i.e., the base of the groove may slope slightly from inner to outer. However, this gauge does display the correct readings when measuring depths of random objects on my desk. You could just use a 20 pence coin, however that just shows if the tread depth is legal, whereas this gauge clearly displays the 'actual' tread depth in mm and allows you to monitor wear. Highly Recommended!

Simple and Useful
After mislaying my small basic tyre depth gauge, I tried a digital version which turned-out to be very fussy in use and gave different readings every time, so that was returned and I have reverted to a simple basic version again with this Godeson which allows fast, one handed use with an easy to read face. When placed on a flat surface the zero was dead-on but even if the reading had been 5mm higher it is simple enough to take that off whatever reading you have, and as a bonus the face is colour coded for even easier monitoring. For those uncertain about what the tyre depth readings represent, here is a quick guide: 1: if the inner or outer treads are wearing down much more than the rest of the tyre, you will need to have your Tracking checked by a Garage. 2: if the centre of the tyre is wearing down more than the two outer edges, your tyre is over-inflated. 3: if the two outer areas are wearing down more than the centre, your tyre is under- inflated. Also, as you are already face to face with your tyres, don’t forget to check for debris or nails which may be stuck in the tread or tyre, and look for any abnormal cracking in the sidewalls. This Godeson gauge is more than good enough to help you get maximum life out of your expensive tyres.

A great tyre tread gauge.
I wasn't sure which tread depth gauge to buy, but I chose this one based on other people's reviews. I have now had the chance to use it and can say nobody should be disappointed with it. Its dial is easy to read and accurate; it’s easy to use and doesn't require batteries. I’m very pleased with it.

Great value
A nice, neat little gadget. It looks good and feels solid. It comes with a small bag that I am sure will protect it in my car glovebox. I have used it today to check all of my tyres. It was easy to use and even with my failing eyesight the gauge was clear and easy to read. I only use this for one car, but it certainly seems that it will serve its purpose well.

Great value tyre Gauge, let down in this case by an assembly error and poor QC
I had one of these before (many companies make / brand and sell these gauges). They are simple, mechanical, easy to read. I can't think of why you would buy a battery-powered digital meter unless this was something you used everyday, digital have no meaningful benefits IMO and if you only use it infrequently do you want to find batteries dead and you need to order some when you do want to check a reading? I returned this one for a refund only because as you can see from the photo, on a flat surface it should read zero, this one was out by 4mm. A simple error when being assembled, all readings were offset by 4mm

Ideal for motorcycle safety checks
Easy to use, easy to read, and accurate. Good enough quality to expect it to last. I use it occasionally to check motorcycle tyres.
