Q: Do they work in grass

Don't know as we only used it indoors and it hovers fine. I would imagine it will work on grass as it relies on hovering, so unless the grass is very deep there shouldn't be a problem.

Q: Do they actually work on carpet?

We bought these hover balls for our great grandsons aged 3 & 4yrs. We tried them on the carpet before we gave them and they worked ok maybe not as fast as on a smooth surface but still quite fun.
