Build the Perfect Bug Out Vehicle: The Disaster Survival Vehicle Guide Review: Inspirational reading! Whether you're like me... just an outdoors enthusiast who loves to learn or a full-on "prepper" Love It! - So I'm a 53 year old female. I've taught scuba diving for 25 years, my full-time career of choice for most of my adult life. But now... I fly a desk. I hung up my fins from teaching scuba and started my own swim school 8 years ago. Fast forward. Business is brisk! Life is good... maybe too good. I've put on extra weight and long to return to my much more fit and trim former self. Mind you, I still enjoy lots of outdoor pursuits! I ski, dive, mountain bike, kayak and camp throughout the year. Apparently it's not enough to stay in shape. I came across "SOS- How to survive" and was fascinated. I then discovered "Fat Guys in the woods" and was transfixed... not only on the myriad of survival skills presented but more so on the emotional journeys of personal growth. I too had become too sedentary. I felt inspired watching Creek's shows! Icouldn't get enough. I logged on to desertcart and ordered three books: "Build the Perfect Bug Out Bag" , "Build the perfect Bug Out Vehicle", and " 365 Survival Skills" . I finished the first in one afternoon. I'm certainly no "prepper" per say... I just love the outdoors!! As an active scuba diving instructor, swim instructor and life guard, I've always loved the idea of being prepared to handle life's "what-ifs". The skills presented in all three of these books are invaluable! Let's say you never have a need to actually "bug out"... so?? Nothing is lost! But the sense of peace and the sheer fun of learning the skills you would need in the event of a disaster?!? Priceless! Maybe I'll never need to utilize the vast majority of these skills and supplies. So what! It's an amazing thought to know I have these skills and supplies at the ready. I'm looking into taking Creek's survival skills week-long class! His books are written with as much humor, and heart as razor sharp expertise. Truly fun and inspiring books. Review: ... bug out vehicles that I came across Build the Perfect Bug Out Vehicle by Creek Stewart - It was through my research on both bug out bags and bug out vehicles that I came across Build the Perfect Bug Out Vehicle by Creek Stewart. After reading his material, it became apparent to me that his work is a seminal piece with both thought provoking and practical information for those interested in general emergency preparedness and survival preparation for the likelihood of any one of the possible natural calamities or societal worst case scenarios one might face. One usually thinks of a car as the vehicle most popular when it comes to transportation. But as Mr. Stewart presents there are various kinds of vehicles and options to review and consider. One needs to be versatile when it comes to preparing for any natural or man-made disaster. Thus the need to have different forms of transportation needs to be thought out and addressed. Here is where Creek's perspectives really shine. Mr. Stewart unveils a variety of suitable vehicle types both motorized and non-engine powered options from which to consider under different disaster scenarios. The book details important vehicle features and also outlines items that should be packed in your Bug Out Vehicle. Stewart makes a solid argument for selecting not just one form of transportation but multiple types if possible to utilize effectively in the crisis situations one might face. It is Mr. Stewart's ultimate goal to give the reader the best chance of getting to your “bug out location” safely and soundly. As mentioned, I found his information solid and valuable that I incorporated many of his thoughts into my writing and research materials. I would highly recommend anyone serious on emergency preparedness and survivalism to read his book. It will definitely give you another perspective in which to consider.

Should Be "Standard Equipment" for Vehicle Owners
Creek Stewart has done a great job with his follow up to "Build the Perfect Bug Out Bag". Like the first one, this book is well thought out, methodical and logical in it's approach to selecting & preparing a BOV. This book covers a wide range of vehicle & transport options as well as the important pros & cons of each. It gives some recommendations based on first hand experience, but includes plenty of other options for consideration. Stewart's writing style is straightforward and easy to follow, and he doesn't sensationalize any of these issues. He also includes a large number of resource links to learn more about it. This book would be useful not only to "preppers", but anyone who relies on a vehicle to get them where they need to go. My hope now is that he will make it a trilogy and write a book on "Building the Perfect Bug Out Retreat"!

Want to build and equip the right conveyance for you bug out situation?
Want to build and equip the right conveyance for your bug out situation? This may be the right book your looking for. Creek breaks down the details for every type of transport needed from foot power to animal to land sea and air. He also details the pros and cons for each conveyance method. While remaining focused on how to equip your situation. This book will appeal to fans of prepping and survival. I like how Creek keeps things simple and gives examples to readers. He keeps you thinking about your unique situation even if the whole book doesn't apply to your 'bug out plan.' It has a lot of interesting examples that will challenge you to think outside the box. My only complaint is, as a fan of this genre I felt like craved more information. I bet Creek could easily write one hundred pages more about building the perfect bug out vehicle.

I have never agreed with putting much into bug out vehicles. In a major SHTF situation like an EMP there will be no resupply of fuel and fuel stockpiles have limited shelf lives. I see major highways being jammed initially with traffic and later with vehicles run out of fuel, then gun fights between people for fuel and other supplies. There are about 35,000 law enforcement agencies in the United States and I think many of the will be acting under their own authority. I can see thousands of road blocks set up to check for firearms, food hording and undesirables (like you). I just don't believe people will get very far in a vehicle. The book does talk about bugging out via boat that may be viable depending on where you are. If you are traveling on small country roads, fire trails and following power lines then you are in a perfect location for ambush. Why should I buy an expensive bug out vehicle when I can take yours? Picture this: I bug out on foot at night with my normal bush walking gear, a .22LR rifle, a single box of ammo and a week's supply of food. You and the family are making your way down a dirt road just like the one on the cover of the book. You come to a fallen tree across the road. You get out, take your chain-saw and start removing the tree. You are almost finished when you fall forward (with a bullet in your head that I fired from my ambush position.) Your wife gets out to see what is wrong and I shoot her in the foot. I pick up your chainsaw and play "tag" with your kids. I ravage your wife but she is not very friendly. I tie her left ankle to a tree and her right ankle to the bull bar on my nice new bug out vehicle. Low range, reverse ... snap, crackle, pop ... horrible experiment! Don't try that at home. At least I bury the family together and nobody is going to report you missing because you have bugged out. I steal your ID and drive off in my new bug out vehicle being very careful of ambushes.
