Reeves 12-Pack Water Color Tube Set, 10ml

The price for this set is amazing. The colors are amazing too. The tubes are rather small. They fit in the palm of your hand (well my hands are small as a female) or rather the average male hand. BUT....they last a long time. I ordered my first batch of these about a year ago and just recently as well and the previous set have still lasted!  I painted about 6 or 7 paintings/canvases sized 16x24. For the price, they are really really worth it. The colors you get are titanium white crimson, raw umber,ultramarine blue, lemon yellow,light green,phthalo blue , deep yellow, violet,medium yellow,phthalo green,burnt sienna, yellow ochre,brilliant red,grass green,cerulean blue, flesh tint,orange,vermillion, blue lake,mars black,viridian hue,burnt umber and paynes gray.Now to paint anything really, most artists dont even need all these colors. But that is not to say that these colors dont come in handy. ESPECIALLY if you are a beginner or novice  or just not the greatest picasso. The other extra colors really can take your painting up a notch. I am more of a graphite or pencil drawing/portrait drawing artist but I decided to try painting since it striked me fancy one random morning. I had coupons to Michaels for cheap canvases and decided to try my hand at painting landscapes. I am happy to say these were my first 2 paintings and I used Reeves painting set. Honestly, I got lots of compliments even with my horrible painting ability (Lol) but more importantly it was therapeutic and I learned a lot from just mixing the colors together. I gave my first painting to my husband.The best part of all this I would have to say, is, the ability to have whatever color you need on hand as opposed to having to mix it up. I really wish the tubes came in a bigger size but you have to understand, because of the wide array/selection of colors, the tubes will be small unless they charge an extra zero at the end of the actual price.I was going to order a few more before the company or amazon realizes the worth and ups the price.

This Reeves set is my first experience with gouache paint. I use a lot of acrylic and watercolor in my art. In school we touched on Gouache but never really used it. I did pick up a few tubes of another brand after getting this set of Reeves for comparison. They are far better than I expected. Decent pigment with most of the colors, a few of the blues and greens have odd consistency and less pigment. I started with an open circular palette and found that these paints can be refreshed once they dry with a spritz of water (similar to watercolor). I bought some portable palettes that have lids and mixed colors to use later. I really like that aspect so I'm not wasting paint. These paints didn't lose pigment when being re-wet.My only complaint is that the tube of white isn't bigger. Just a small annoyance since white is used so frequently for mixing. I have used this set of gouache on water color paper (90lb and 140lb cold pressed), wood, and canvas. I used a little less water when painting on wood and canvas as I did with the watercolor paper. It worked well on all the base mediums I tried it on.For anyone that is sensitive to smells I would warn that these paints have an odd medicinal smell to them. It reminded me of scotch tape and the smell of a hospital. It's not terrible, just odd.

These are some pretty good pigmented watercolor paints for a student grade watercolor sets at this price. I honestly thought they would be worse, with weird oils and water leaking out of the tubes when you squeezed them out, but that never happened. There is a chemical smell (I don't mind that much, but others might be) and it cracks when they dry up if you leave them on your palette or squirt them into pans. And like some others said, the black and brown is weirdly too chalky; If I wanted them to be that way I'd just used ganache. I attached some paintings I did, but my scanner was a tad bit smaller than the paintings (they were 9x12') and some areas of the pictures were cut off/warped. The paper on the side of the second picture was torn off because the tape was too strong and ripped off some of the paper when I tried to reposition it on my board :|. The Lady Gaga one is drawn on Canson XL watercolor paper and the....uh...Andy Samberg one is Canson Montval. This is definitely one of my more highly recommended starter paints next to Winsor & Newton Cotman, Van Gogh, Prima (those three are very high quality watercolor paints, almost artist), Schmincke Akademie and Sakura.I didn't buy them here, but actually at either Michaels or Walmart, forgot which.

Great starter paint set, enough to fill over 20 8x10 canvases. I recently took up abstract painting and have tried acrylics and oils so far. Oils take a lot longer to dry and get right than acrylics. I read up before choosing to start with acrylics as my painting medium.If you are a novice artist and have yet to choose your paints or choosing for someone else, I would suggest starting here. Acrylics are easy to use, easier to tame and get right and dry quicker (for the impatient ones). The size, variety, quality and price makes this set a great way to start painting. I started with simple gradient art and moved on slowly to other styles and found these very enjoyable to work with. Perfect for anyone who wants to make a foray into painting, I'm over 20 and I loved working with these!
