and it's nice not having to suck on the tube like with ...
I use this in my aquarium, and it's nice not having to suck on the tube like with a traditional design (although, I did brush my teeth and gargle with antiseptic mouthwash more, before, out of fear of getting algae or fish wastes in my mouth!). However there are things to note... 1. it seems to work better if the exit end of the tube is below the bottom of the tank (more than I expected would be needed). 2. you need to vigorously squeeze the bulb until the entire hose fills with water (don't be too gentle with it). 3. I recommend not attaching the suction cup to your tank, so that you can quickly remove the siphon if the container you are siphoning the water into is almost full). I have only had it a short time so hopefully it will hold up. Also, I have my fish tank on a coffee table, and I put the container/bucket on the floor, and it seems like it's the perfect size/length for that. Finally, it seems to have a decent suction... the gravel will go at least 1" into the unit as your using it (if you hold it near the bottom).

Great for 12 gallon tank
This water siphon is perfect for us. I was looking for a smaller scale pump that I could use for my 12 gallon tank. My brother who is an aquarium aficionado advised me that I should be cycling the water out frequently to keep my fish happy and not swimming in their waste buildup, which I was dreading, until I found and used this.Disclaimer: I have a very limited experience of use... which is that I only have a 12 gallon tank and this is the first time using any kind of pump. This siphon is really user friendly. I had never used it before and didn't do any sort of trial use... i just got a bucket out, stuck the tube in the tank and started siphoning. It's very easy to use and as soon as you lift the other side up higher than the rest of the tube, the water flow stops, so it's easy to start/stop the flow of water. It only takes some light pumping to get the water flowing. All super easy, making the process of changing the water incredibly easy... which will in turn keep my fish happier since I will be less inclined to procrastinate this process.

Super quick and easy
This has made cleaning my 3.5 gallon fish tank so much quicker and easier. All you have to do is place the suction side into the tank, and attached the suction cup to the glass. Place the opposite end in a bucket. Squeeze the blue bulb about 4 times and the water starts flowing from the tank to the bucket. There is a cap with small holes to keep your fish and gravel from being sucked up; yet it catches all the other stuff that makes the water dirty. When done, give it a quick rinse and put it away. It's conveniently small so I keep mine right in the bucket.I definitely recommend it.

Perfect for betta tanks 3 & 5 gallons
I am using this pump to siphon three and five gallon tanks and it works perfectly. To start the siphon give a couple squeezes and make sure the bucket and tube are below the tank level. If you need to stop the suction for partial water change, simply raise the bucket up to tank level. It's not rocket science but the packaging is foreign and there are no instructions so I wanted to add that for anyone new to this type of product. Trying to remove the bulb I did manage (very first time) to put a dent in the tubing that will not come out. I suspect this is an item that, while it works wonders, probably will need periodic replacement. For the price though, I really wouldn't mind. That is the only reason I deducted one star. Also I am able to use this pump without having to remove my betta fish from the tank for partial water changes which is good, they get temporarily stressed every time they are moved.

Good while it lasted - for a month
I purchased this through amazon, but at the time of my purchase, the item wasn't available through Prime (I am a prime member) and it actually came from China - all that way. And it took a long time for it to arrive. I shouldn't have ordered it knowing that. But, once it arrived, it was great. The aquarium I have is a 5 gallon, and this pump did a good job of cleaning the gravel or sand WHEN IT WORKED. I've had it for about a month is all. I'm not hard on things, and used it for a small tank. What 'broke' or went wrong with this thing is the flap of plastic within the hand pump that opens when you begin to hand pump the water to get it going, and of course closes when you let go to keep the syphon intact. Well, that valve or flap (mine is just a piece of plastic that I cannot fix) doesn't go back to position and close, so it creates no syphon now!So, if it worked - and didn't take so long to arrive (it was about 2 1/2 weeks) for the price, it would be a great value. However, since it did not last a month, it is useless now, and is truly cheaply made (which would be fine if it worked!) - it was not a good purchase. I will replace it with something better, than will last. Most purchases I make are good ones, but this just wasn't one of them.2 stars for good idea - good value & when it worked, did a good job - but did not last longer than a month.

Great for our office fish tanks
We have two fish tanks at my office and it seems like they get dirty really fast. We got tired of having to empty the tanks out by scooping the water out with whatever bowls and pitchers we found in the staff kitchen, so someone suggested getting a pump like this one. I offered to buy it for the office, and everyone seems to be really happy with it! Somehow I managed to get out of cleaning the fish tanks (probably because I sit far enough away from them) but my coworkers said how much they appreciate the pump because it makes it so much easier to clean the tanks. It is very easy to use, and exactly what they were looking for. It’s held up well over the several months we’ve had it, and it gets regular use between our two tanks. I’m sure it’s been used at least a dozen times since we got it. The office is very happy with it!

Don’t think twice - buy this pump!
Game. Changer. We got into bettas a few years ago and have cultivated a sorority that is in a large tank. My weekly cleaning used to consist of scooping up each fish, segregating them into tiny bowls while I changed the water and scrubbed. Not terrible but probably 30 minutes of solid effort. The pump is amazing - with zero effort I can drain the water and clean the tank while the ladies continue to swim undisturbed. The entire process dropped from 30 minutes to 10 tops. Wish I had purchased this years ago! If you have home tanks - but this pump!

No problems, simple and effective
I've had the BiOrb version and this is a pretty standard product using basic pump parts. The packaging is simple, polybag, no thrills or problems. The length is perfect and the product simple to use, insert the large end into the aquarium and squeeze the blue bulb to start the syphining process. It will take a few pumps to get going but by moving the end lower gravity can take effect if needed.A filter grid is in place to ensure small stones or even fish don't get sucked into the pipe and block, very effective in the BiOrb as this means its easy to clean the ceramic material of food waste without having to take all the stones out. I find it's worth lifting the filter out also to get a good clean under there. No problems at all after 2 months.

Works - but thin plastic tubing lets it down
A bargain price - The syphon pump works OK but the hose tubing is far too thin a material and so easily folds in on itself, causing the flow to stop frequently. I don't think it will last too long as the tubing is very thin and will no doubt split as it's already showing stress marks where it bends over the top of the aquarium when in use. It's cheap and cheerful though, so if you're on a budget, it'll do the trick.

so easy to use
How many times have you had a mouthful of aquarium water because you have to suck one end!n well not anymore....this is an amazingly simple tool to clean gravel or suck out water. Pump the blue part and it draws water up the long tube. Also sucks up sand but guess any gravel cleaner will also do the same. A must have item for any fish keeper.

SO BAD WORDS CANT DESCRIBE!
Would of give it a 0 star rating because it is very very flimsy and had holes in the tube!THE PACKAGING!!! well that was ridiculously over sized it took nearly 30 mins to open the package because it was so tightly wrapped up in layers of bubble wrap and cardboard etc!i am never going to buy anything from this seller again as the whole thing was terrible!i will spend more money on something more decent!DO NOT BUY THIS ITEM IT IS A TOTAL WASE TO TIME AND MONEY IT'S A PATHETIC CHINESE MADE ITEM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Cheap and nasty
The item arrived in a timely manner. First appearances are that it is Ok but when used the tubing just crumples and then you realise what a cheap bit of rubbish the item is. Do yourself a favour and if you want one of these order the official biorb version. It is much stronger.
