17" Percussion" Gawharet El Fan Pro Metal Darbuka Drum Doumbek (Black/Silver + Remo Black Mist)

This is a really good drum and I am very pleased with this purchase. Vendor was very helpful with my queries and requests. Shipping was prompt with a well-padded and sealed box. The cast metal body is heavy and sturdy and gives you a good feel while playing. I own other brands made of aluminum sheet which are much lighter, and I can see the difference. The transparent stock head with El-fan writing/emblem that comes installed with the Doumbek is pretty good and gives decent sound projection. I’m definitely going to use this even though I got the REMO replacement head - Planning to alternate them. Please note that the REMO head do NOT come pre-installed and package do NOT come with a tuning key. It comes just with additional head/s and a carry bag. Make sure you get a 5 mm Hex Allen Key for tuning and replacing the head. I would also suggest looking up some YT videos on Doumbek/Darbuka head/skin replacement. I heated up the head/skin with a hair dryer several time as shown in a video to stretch so that I can align the metal collar with the skin - I’m not sure if this is really needed for a synthetic head, but I did it anyway. I loosened the stretched head/skin a little bit after a couple of days (again as mentioned in a video) and now I’m getting amazing sound with booming "Dum"s and sharp, metallic "Tek"s!!! The carry bag is not really padded as mentioned - it’s very thin and had several tears at places where the metal body rested on the bag. I wish it was of better quality but hey - it comes free and kept the drum dust free so far! I Used some duct tape to patch them up for now and will definitely go for a better bag as this Gawharet El fan Doumbek has become a prized possession!

The drum is very deep toned, and has no room for tightening for a higher pitch. The zipper on the case is broken, once unzipped, can't be zipped again.

This drum has a really nice rim and center stroke sounds. Mylar head seems a bit thin and flimsy, but sounds very good. The drum came with a spare head. The aluminum shell has several rough spots, and I had to gently file some of the metal edges because they were sharp and posed an injury risk. Once smoothed out, it was nice, safe, and comfortable to play. The inside of the drum is quite rough and should not be explored with your bare hands.

I liked the look of the Copper drum body with the Remo Orange Swirl head, but it looks even nicer now I have it. The inside of them drum body is a nice light application of a darker blue which looks really good out in the sun. Sound was pretty good but obviously will need some adjustment to suit your personal tastes - same as any drum. Before tuning it to my liking, I removed the top ring to check it out and level out the head a bit. I found that the drum head was a pretty tight fit in the top ring. Now that its all bolted down again and level, it sounds just the way I want it.

Product arrived and it looked like it was heavily used! The top (blue synthetic head) is all scuffed and it even has creases in it I'm even scared its gonna rip. Not to mention that the replacement synthetic head is bad enough to that it cannot be used if needed. Not satisfied at all. Will definitely not buy again

Los únicos inconveniente es que es difícil de afinar por qué no están parejos los agujeros de la base y la corona, y no lo mandan marcado por dentro para reconocer la posición de afinación. Su sonido es potente y en ocasiones se escucha muy metálico, con la técnica correcta suena bien. Recomiendo marcar la corona y la base del tambor antes de desarmarlo para no perder la afinación de fabrica.

C’est une très bonne percussion, digne de la marque, elle est livrée avec une tête de rechange, une clé de réglage, et un sac de transport. La fabrication et qualitatives, attention. Néanmoins, il faut rajouter une vingtaine d’euros de droits de douanes au prix indiqué sur le site. Je recommande ce produit.
