Memory Problems
I recently built my first computer. A modest design running an Intel E6500 microprocessor. Since Windows XP is no longer supported I have been obliged to install Windows 7 Home 64-Bit. Frankly, I dislike it and wish I could stay with XP. One maddening thing, is that my computer has been crashing with fair frequency. The infamous Blue Screen Of Death. These BSOD's have been happening every one or two days. The crashes seem to be caused by a different failure every time. Maddening! My Event Log showed something called Error 41-63. There's a lot of stuff on the internet about this one, so it must be a common problem.I Googled and a number of good Samaritans suggested removing the memory sticks, one by one, and isolate the fault that way. I discounted this since the computer had brand new memory and it seemed to work fine for days at a time. How could it be faulty memory? I'm accustomed to thinking of silicon based solid-state devices as failure-proof when used properly.Googling, I found out about a free software program called MemTest86. You download it as an ISO image file. So you must have a DVD burning program that will allow you to make ISO image burns. Nero is a good example and there are numerous free alternatives. You must also set the BIOS on your computer to boot from the DVD drive at start-up. MemTests86 is self-booting and does not require an Operating System. It runs automatically. I used the menu version 4.0 which seems more comprehensive. It takes about half an hour to run a full sweep of 4 Gigs of memory. It will run indefinitely sweeping the memory, again and again, looking for intermittent errors. The first time I ran the program it reported no errors so I stopped it at half an hour. Big mistake! When I did a more thorough job and ran it for 40 minutes it lit up my screen with blood-red warnings of memory errors. Tens of thousands of memory errors.Remember the good Samaritans who suggested removing the memory sticks, one by one? Well, I should have listened to them. They were right. By selectively removing my memory sticks I quickly established that the problems are restricted to my No. 1 stick, entirely. Unfortunately, I had ordered my PNY memory from Amazon on September 1st and I cannot return it as defective (even though it's Amazons fault). Oh well, Caveat Emptor. I'm going to buy a second pair of these PNY chips despite getting burned, since I will then have a guaranteed match (and one spare), for my existing good RAM stick. The first thing I will do with my new PNY memory stick is run MemTest86. If your planning on buying any kind of RAM, do yourself a favor and test the memory while it's returnable. I have learned a lesson here; some manufacturers are indifferent to quality control. I hope this helps others.

One stick bad
I was so excited to get this RAM. It was going to double my existing RAM so I was pretty disappointed when my computer blue screened shortly after install when I booted up the first time. There are 4 banks on my MB. The original mem I had were two 1gb sticks dual channel. So I put these two 2gb sticks in the other two banks for 6 gig total. I searched near and far for information on mixing memory like this but my google results were mixed. So I gave it a try.BSOD. BSOD.I rearranged the sticks. Failure to boot. Uh oh.Removed sticks in various configurations and finally down to just the two new sticks. Yay! That seemed stable and I knew the mix and match was going to be a long shot anyway. So I settled down to some serious computer stuff (stumble upon heh) and shortly thereafter BSOD. Dang it.Got MemTest86 and created a boot CD. Tested the RAM. Sure enough, one stick was bad. That was the reason it totally failed to boot during one of my stick swapping exercises. I thought that might be the case but hope springs eternal.Let me just say right here that returning the RAM to Amazon was a breeze. No phone calls. No 3rd degree. Just fill out the form and print the postage paid label out. I reused, per their helpful suggestion, the shipping box it came in and dropped it off at one of the many UPS drop boxes that are around. The shipping label has a tracking number and Amazon updates the tracking here so you don't have to go out to UPS' site. Refund took a day or so after they got the package.I've done business with Amazon for many years but that was the first time I returned anything. I'm so glad it was so trouble free and hassle free. Kudos to you Amazon.I ended up going with 2 sets of 4GB (2 stick) memory from Crucial - Crucial Ballistix 4 GB (2x2 GB) DDR2-800 CL4 2.0V Memory Kit with EPP BL2CP25664AA80A . Great deal and their site has a widget that you can run that will let them tell you exactly which RAM will run on your MB. Very, very nice. The only thing you need to be careful about is when you search Amazon for the part number make sure you are actually getting the right part and not one of the suggested parts that the search will also return.

Great product at great price.
The subject line says it all.The problem I faced with delivery:However, I faced a problem in delivery time it took 2 weeks later than the max time stated. This is however is not Amazons and the provider's mistake. The USPS office placed a sticker on the "last digit" of my apartment number which got it placed the the property manager's box while she was off for 2 weeks !! how lucky I am.The fix:I ordered a replacement which shipped within 2 days from placing a replacement order! To my surprise though the day I went to take the package, the manager was there and she gave me 2 packages. So I had to return the older one.Functionality:I place it in my ubuntu linux debugging server for CUDA programming on which I also have to run windows for the wife to use it as a desktop. This thing is worth the money honestly, although the PC I am using is not :D but I had no more money than this item's price so I bought this upgrade which proved to be a money and heart attack saver ( I had only 512 MB for the server which ran fine since it uses only 160 MB for all kinds of service i am running including plex media server with transcoding on the fly, svn server, web server, all kinds of development servers including apache, tomcat ...etc but after installing windows as a second boot, heart attacks were about to happen :P). So why I am mentioning this? easy, this server runs for """months""" non stop in a row and never hangs up or emits any errors except when I had to restart for kernel upgrades/updates. This is mostly due to the nice memory modules ( trust me I tried a lot that never performed as these modules).

Defective out-of-the-box; replacement broke after 4 years. Will buy a different brand in the future.
I bought this some 4 years ago, and started having problems with my computer as soon as I installed the modules to increase my computer memory to 8GB. I removed the new memory, and the computer worked well again, so I returned to Amazon and received new memory modules (that part of the experience was great, by the way).I use this computer as a NAS, and started having problems with corrupted files a few months ago, but found no problems with the hard drives. Eventually I decided to test the RAM with Windows Memory Diagnostic, and got errors. I removed these memory modules, and everything works fine again.I'm now running with the original 4GB memory modules, which are still working well after 8 years.I will not be buying PNY again in the future.

Good quality good price
I installed the 4GB memory the day I received it and it has helped my system a lot. It is a great upgrade for anyone, but be sure that your system can support it before you buy it. The price was good as Staples wants $79 for 1 stick of 1GB memory so I got 3GB more for less money. Quality is good and so far I have no complaints.
