Properly set up what sort of range , in miles, could i expect .? in usb or lsb?

Depending on the terrain, if it's fairly flat where you are, an easy 15 to 20 miles. If your talking in skip conditions then the distance is wide open. I've talked to Australia and Hawaii from here in Oregon. I had my radio peaked and tweaked a little because my modulation was very weak on AM. Now it's talking pretty good on the Am side with 5 to 6 watts output. Upper and lower sideband is putting out 12 to 15 watts. Get a tune up, it's worth the money if they do it right.

If you want more frequencies or wish to put out more power, instead of modifying a CB radio to transmit illegally, I strongly recommend getting a ham radio license. The legal limit for hams is 1,500W. Plus, you can use multiple LF, MF, HF, VHF, UHF, and SHF bands; not just 11m, and you have many more modes. For example, in addition to AM and SSB, hams can use CW, FM, FT8, and many other digital modes. In fact, hams can invent their own digital modes and use them too. It only costs $15 to take the ham radio exam.
