This model will handle 45-70! It is rifle length, but what's more important is it will fit between 41 & 460. I have one and it works perfectly in my 1895. JM

Will this work for a .40

No it's too big unless you'll have to much trouble trying to pull it threw but a 10mm or 40 snake is available

Will this work for a .45 ?

If you purchase the model for the 45 caliber it will work fine. Just add a little of your favorite bore cleaner, Hoppe's #9, and your ready to go. I still prefer to old GI rod and brush

Double checking: does this work with a .44 mag lever action rifle?

I think it will depend on the barrel length. If the barrel is 20 " or less I think it will likely work. For example a 40 S&W bore snake will work in a 20" 410 shotgun
