When the back plate is screwed onto the tap it will tighten with the water inlet facing to the ground. You should note that as delivered the tap will always tighten with the water inlet facing down regardless of how you position the two components to start off with. This might be exactly what is required, but maybe not. This is not a fault. Rather it is a natural issue which is addressed by winding PTFE tape around the threaded connection, or the gas equivalent which is thicker. If you require the water inlet to be facing up, 180 degrees from where it would naturally tighten, you will need a fair amount of PTFE tape, winding it at least 10 times around the thread. After a bit of trial and error the fitting will tighten up in the required orientation and the joint will be watertight. So it's nothing to worry about. The tap seems solidly constructed and works just fine. Some reviewers have noted that the screw in the centre of the tap handle has rusted. This is normal, in my experience of garden taps because the screw is not brass. Just put a blob of motor gease over the screw head or spray some WD40 over it now and again and it will be protected. I don't see this is as a problem. All the extra fittings for snap-on hosepipe couplings are provided as well as screws and wall plugs to fix the tap to the wall, so some thought has been given to what you will need. Use all three of the provided screws for a solid fixing to the wall. Overall I would say this is a pretty decent garden tap kit. Order some PTFE tape at the same time and you will be good to go.

Does a good job

Very well-made and reasonably priced tap, includes fixing screws and wall plugs. The wall plate has three fixing points (screw holes) which adds an extra degree of security when attaching the tap to the wall. The tap is very nicely made and should be very durable I think. I like the Teflon ring which eliminates the need for PTFE tape. The tape is made in Poland; nice to have that European quality.

I have fitted a few outside taps and this is the best, the self sealing washer on the thread is a brilliant idea, much easier than PTFE tape, the only difficulty that I had was tightening the tap onto the back plate as it neared the correct position, lady hands, would have been easy for a man!

Seems a reasonably constructed tap and backplate. Those reviews who said the 'washer' wasn't fit for purpose, should be aware it's not really a washer in the traditional sense. It's generally always a challenge getting the tap upright, but this tap's arrangement made it pretty easy - rather than pile on the PTFE, just revolve the tap until it bites, then give it another turn to get it upright relative to the feed pipe. When this is done, simply tighten up the locking nut (on the thread where the white 'washer' resides) to secure it. The only downside I found was that the rawl plugs were far to large for their intended purpose, and the screws were rubbish - two of mine sheared off, so I replaced them with standard ones from Screwfix.
