OK, so some whiskies do benefit from ice.
Before this whisky, I thought all good whiskies require no ice to be enjoyed properly. However, this and even the 15 year old, are quite potent. It's very alcoholic (as the name would imply) but my issue is I couldn't enjoy the flavours over the high alcohol content. Was going to just chalk it down to it not being for me, but then I tried some ice, and oh my!!! It kills off the incessant burning by the alcohol content and reveals all the rich complexity in the flavour that builds upon the biscuity buttery lovely taste of the original 12. Far more flavoursome than the original and of course far more alcoholic. So, now I would indeed recommend this if you want a stronger 12, but IMO you MUST drink it with ice to smooth it out, otherwise it is harsh and unappealing.

Lovely Irish whiskey
So I love the standard 12 year old but thus has now become my new favourite, an excellent sipping whiskey.

Lovely tasting whiskey bit of a con I payed £85 but I could have paid £72 without the box

A beautiful drop of whiskey
An excellent drop of whiskey, a tad overpowering drank straight, just a tinsy drop of water or ice, brings out the complexities of this whiskey, on par with midleton barry crocket when drank this way

A Whiskey For The Enthusiast & Collector
After a wildly successful debut at Whisky Live Paris in 2011, Redbreast 12yo Cask strength is here, boasting a shiny trophy as Whiskey Advocate's Irish Whiskey of the Year. Already a legendary bottling from the Midleton Distillery in Cork. This is the Cask strength version of this famous whiskey B1/11 at 57.7%, not to be confused with other Redbreast whiskey, The batch number should be clearly marked on bottle & box, if not marked its not the cask strength version. There currently are two batches available, this B1/11 & another B1/12, the 11 or 12 indicates the year. If in doubt ask the seller. Both batches are really collectable now and wont be available for long, really one for the enthusiasts and collectors of fine whiskies.

Really nice whisky.

Sehr guter Whisky mit deutlichen Sherrynoten. Die Alkoholstärke fällt bei kleinen Schlücken nicht ins Gewicht. Absolute Empfehlung.

Very close to the non cask strength version but very charming to test out while dilluting. Very nice indeed

On the nose it's buttery and slightly sour. The arrival is what I can best describe as citrus with intense, buttery short bread that lingers into the finish. I tried this both with and without water. If you like rich scotch/pot still whisky, you can drink this straight and relish the rich, intensely sweet and sour notes you're getting from the combination of barley and cask. With water it becomes a bit more tame and less sour on the palette. The only bad thing I can say is that it's kind of pricey for what it is, given bunnahabhain, which has similar notes, albeit with less sour and more bourbon cask.

Für den günstigen Preis ist der Whiskey top. Zwar muss man sich erst an die starke medizinische Note zu Beginn gewöhnen (durch den sehr hohen Alkoholanteil), aber danach entfaltet sich der Whiskey ganz wunderbar.
