Desert Dragon Figurine - Hand-Painted, 6.5" Mythical Model Figure - Engaging Fantasy Toy for Boys, Girls & Kids Ages 4+

PROS: This Safari Ltd. Desert Dragon figure is a great, imaginative sculpt, with nice detail and an active pose. It also is very well made and durable, and given what painted plastic Role Playing Game (RPG) miniatures presently (summer, 2022) sell for, it is actually pretty good value for money for use with RPGs. The gold color is a special paint that only reflects as gold when light hits it from the right direction, otherwise it appears as a shimmering brown; it's a really neat effect. As a cool monster toy for a 10 year old, it's perfect. CONS: It doesn't come in a box, but in a sealed clear plastic bag. There's a protective plastic piece snapped over the eight walking legs to protect them from damage during shipping (which is a nice touch, and it easily pulls off), but you'll need to dress the figure up with your own box or gift bag if you plan to give it as a gift. TOSS-UP: This is completely subjective, but for RPG use I suspect some people might think it's a little too big to use as a monster miniature. Its jaws are about 2.5" (about 12 scale feet) above the table top and its 8 walking legs are splayed so wide apart that it will need a 130mm (5") diameter base to fit on if you want to put it on a base. It is definitely much, much more dragon-sized than say giant mutant scorpion-sized - but it is sold as a desert dragon, after all!

I ordered this as a monster for our D&D games, and was not disappointed. I didn't have to touch up the paint job at all, and it easily slipped into the game. The Desert Dragon is not too big to use on the board, and was unique enough to give the players a bit of a scare once it was revealed. The fine detail and excellent paint job allowed it to fit in with the other miniatures on the board, allowing for an immersive game. It is also much sturdier than most figurines, and could withstand being knocked off the table by little hands. (Some of my players bring their children.) Thanks for doing such a great job!

While an argument could be made that this is no sort of "dragon", this thing was exactly what I was looking for as a "boss" monster for a tabletop fantasy RPG I am running with friends. The quality of the sculpt is first rate, and the paint job is great, I couldn't do that well myself. I look forward to plunking it down on the table and seeing the reaction of my players!

Christmas present for my 5yo son and he adores it. He’s super into monsters and mythical beasts and they’re surprisingly hard to find, so this was a real gem. Gorgeously designed, sturdy build and nice size.
