It can be built on a breadboard for demonstration purposes, then soldered to the included board. The included AVR is pre-programmed with an Arduino bootloader. Simply solder the included parts together, apply power, and the LED begins to blink indicating proper operation. Kit contains: 1 - ATMEGA328P-PU microcontroller 1 - PCB 2 - 14 pin male header 1 - 6 pin ISP header 1 - LED 1 - 16Mhz crystal 1 - 10k Ohm resistor 1 - 330 or 470 Ohm resistor (for LED current limiting) 3 - 22pF capacitors 1 - schematic Note: After it is built, this device requires either an ISP programmer to upload custom code, or another arduino-compatible device to program it (see http://arduino.cc/en/Tutorial/ArduinoISP). We recommend investing in a cheap 'USBASP' device to be used for all of your AVRs.

Excellent Buy!!!

I required a barebones arduino to complete a project for school. I programmed the chip on my arduino uno then transferred it onto this board. I used a 7805 - 5 volt voltage regulator, a switch, a red LED, a couple of resistors with two 10 uf capacitors, a 9 volt battery clip, and a 9 volt battery as the power supply. I then assembled it all on to a perfboard. This worked flawlessly. Was an exceptional value, and an A+ in my favor. I highly recommend this to anyone who is interested in "making" using arduino.
