it is easily shaped with ordinary wood-working tools
This is exactly what I wanted and needed to replace the plastic nut on my resonator guitar conversion. While the material is much denser and harder than plastic, it is easily shaped with ordinary wood-working tools. I successfully shaped a new, mirror image nut for my resonator guitar in less than an hour, using nothing more that sand paper, files and a hacksaw blade (to rough cut the piece to length). I'm confident that this will last the life of the instrument, unless someone decides to convert it back to right hand.
