Great upgrade lens for the Samsung NX camera
The Samsung EX-51855 lens is a great upgrade to the Samsung 20 - 50 mm lens which comes with the NX2000 compact system camera. It achieves a much quicker and sharper focus than the 20 - 50 mm lens with no compromises on the image quality. The lens also comes with OIS (Optical Image Stabilization) which works great even in low light situation. The lens also has the same length in the retracted position which is great for storing in my existing camera case. One thing to be aware is that the lens diameter is 58 mm, which means that we would need to consider a new set of filter since the Samsung 20 - 50 mm lens is 40.5 mm in diameter. However, the EX-51855 lens mechanism does not rotate during the focusing which makes it a lot easier to use with the polarizing filters. The lens package also comes with a lens hood and a storage bag. I think Samsung should have used this lens as part of their NX2000 compact system camera package. It would have made the camera perfect.

Great lens
While I almost wrote "great kit lens" I pulled back. It was not a kit lens for me. I got the 20-50 with my NX300. The 20-50 is a great lens optically but with its rotating front element and noisy focus it just seems like some corners were cut. You cannot fault the 20-50 performance. I messed up a bunch of photos with motion blur and while I had read that the 20-50 was superior optically to the 18-55 I thought that the OIS would be helpful to me . I was correct that the OIS was right for me. I also like the quieter autofocus. The non rotating front element is a plus should I want to use a polarizer filter. The 58mm filter size is a surprise but this lens that I bought is very good at all things. Has great bokeh which is unusual for a zoom in this price range. Seems resistant to flare and I have not yet shot anything that would show distortion. My lens a version III has a metal mount and I function. I confess the I function is new to me and maybe not a plus or not. The OIS is either off or on via the menu there is no switch on the lens. The quality level seems much higher than the 20-50 but as I stated the 20-50 produces quality images. So I got a great lens on Amazon from Jae Yoon and the transaction was without a hiccup.

Excellent lens - A little bigger than the older I Had, a compact 20-50 ..which started with an 00 error and ended, a month later with a dead diaphragm, making all the photos totally dark. I m very satisfied with the Samsung NX 18 55mm

quick focus, rarely hunts, well built
This is the primary lens on my NX20. The 18-55's very quick auto focus alone makes it well worth the price. It rarely hunts. The OIS is a good thing, especially with macro photos. Solidly built, proper metal bayonet, good shade. If I start shooting serious videos I'll wish the very quiet autofocus was dead silent (should give this 4.5 stars for that reason). Maybe an external mic would solve that. The 20-55 that came with my now-rarely-used NX1000 was excellently optically (I make big prints) but was no good for portraits because it hunts far too much...so it's also rarely used. Lesson: you get what you pay for with kit lenses.

I'm in love
Back with my stock NX lens, I had to brace myself for every shot (and night shots were out of the question). I'm a guy who often carries heavy stuff, so steady hands aren't my forte, BUT these solve the job perfectly. To top it all, it even came with a lens hood, saving me $10 off from ebay! What I also love about this lens (it's barely visible from the stock picture) is that there's a switch that allows you to choose between manual and auto focus - something some of the other lenses don't offer. Update 4/27/2014 Less than 2 weeks later, I accidentally dropped my lens 3 ft down on carpeted flooring (with my lens hood on, which should've further absorbed the shock). Sadly to say, one of the lens inside is now misaligned from the drop and the Samsung NX Camera says ERROR 00 because it cannot detect the lens due to that. Word of caution, please handle this with care, especially if you purchased a used unit without warranty, as I did)

Samsung Lens Direction / Build Quality
Use this with my NX1 primarily for still photography. The combination produces great photos given the investment. DXO lens review gives the lens a moderate rating on an NX20. [...] I would rate it's photography capability higher. However, it is not a very rugged lens at least on an NX1 camera body. The 50 to 200 has the same problem. I have broken both lenses relatively easily. They both have an extremely flimsy design where the lens/camera mount assembly (3 small screws that screw into an almost non-existent main lens plastic attachment area) connects to the main body of the lens. The last time I replaced this lens it included a Square D damage replacement warranty because it's just a matter of time. I have been shooting Canon for years and never broken a lens. I have broken 2 Samsung lenses in less than a year. Samsung offers no repair services on these lenses. They have stopped selling the NX1 and other camera gear in Europe all together because of low acceptance. They don't have a published lens roadmap (nor dslr/mirrorless camera roadmap). And, as recent as 30 days ago they listed some of their lenses on Amazon and BhpPhoto as "discontinued" but, they now show those lenses as "will be available on April 19". These 2 S lenses are well built and perform with the best of their competitors. It's not clear to me where Samsung is headed with this camera technology. Also, I don't intentionally blast manufactures even if I have had a bad experience. However, I don't plan on investing any more in Samsung digital camera technology until they publish a formal statement of direction. Their monitors, smartphones, etc. are great.

So-So
If you have a 18-200, this is not necessary, unless you want to pack a little less weight - then you lose the all-around versatility of the 18-200

Would be perfect with a better stabilizer for video , I have to be carefull not to move to much, but I like the lens anyway, for picture it is perfect.
