Merry Pet MPS002 Wood Room with a View Pet House

We took a chance on the Merry Pet after looking at several versions of this particular pet house. We were purchasing it for an outdoor kitty that has adopted us and becoming less feral every day. And we are very glad we chose this model. - Choose the stained unit versus the raw wood version. The other manufacturer makes one that is thinner wood and not stained - This shipped very well, tightly packed. Styrofoam blocks protect each piece, and there is a life's supply of bubble wrap around each piece - No splits, frays, corner damage or dent marks - Other than an extra hand to hold up one piece while attaching to another, one person can assemble the house - All assembly parts are included, except for tools - When assembled, the only odor was strong cedar and residual wood stain (expected) - Even though measurements are provided, I had a sense that it would be big - very pleased that it was just right for ONE cat to use - The top (without stairs) allows a single bath towel doubled over to cover all four corners (puts it in perspective) It will be used outdoors on our deck that has about a 3-4 foot overhang (farther out than most roof overhangs). It's cedar and looks like it will do just fine outdoors, weather and all. For the price, a few years will pay for itself. Drilling a hole in the bag for an electrical cord to heat the kitty warming blanket during cold weather (we are in Florida; hot humid summers, winters average 30-40 degrees on coldest days). It can be re-stained if desired, which will add years to the life of the house. The stairs will remain, mostly because "mama" thinks they are too cute. No cat will ever use them! My cat can reach the top level standing on the ground. My indoor cat, around 14 pounds, immediately jumped up and laid on the towel the first night, and stayed the rest of the evening. It comes down to which make and model you purchase, I believe. We looked at the unfinished version that was a few dollars less and the wood looks thinner and vulnerable to damage just during the construction process. This model looks like it was constructed better. We'll see how long the kitty uses it, but during the windy cold days, this offers shelter from the biting cold that we want to shelter him from. I don't know about dogs, but in general, even small dogs are bigger than the average cat. There's only room for resting with no space for dishes or extra kitty enticements or even a second kitty. Just use household materials for bedding to get them acclimated first. Add store bought pads or pillows later. We love this and may get another one for the one that took to it right away. A great purchase for a great price.

Easy to assemble! Might need an electric screw driver for faster assembly but the pieces were easy to put together(pretty obvious what belonged with what) and it was ready in 30 minutes! Take the parts out, match them up, match the screws up to the holes where they belong, tighten them, and you're done. Made from real wood which makes it sturdy, and a nice piece of furniture that compliments your house for your pup. My only complaint is the super narrow staircase.. I'm convinced that the stairs were made only for a cat. If your dog doesn't have problems jumping up onto high platforms then the staircase won't be an issue. All it takes is a big leap for my dog, as if he were to jump on our couch or the bed. Carmelo is 21 pounds and has a super long body and he fits perfectly in the top of the castle, unfortunately the bottom scares him a bit. BUT, since he loves it so much it gets 5 stars anyway. My boyfriend calls this thing his(our pup's) castle and he melts every time he comes home and sees how cute he looks in the window sleeping in the top floor of his castle. Like Macy's around Christmas time and the puppies in the window sleeping soundly. It was a HIT, for our little one. Again, Dog owners, beware of the narrow staircase. The same seller sells separate staircases that fit perfectly if you are specifically concerned about the stairs.

It's a good bargain as an indoor pet house for a small dog . The construction is decent and sturdy, assembly is easy and it's a pretty little pet house to look at. For less than $ 70 I think it's a steal. I do have a couple of chips on one of the pet houses that I bought but they are minor. That been said, I don't have dogs. I bought this for my adopted feral cats outdoor since the product also markets as outdoor use. The delivery is prompt, with a week, and I'm very happy with the seller Plumstruck's customer service which was efficient and courteous. ( I contacted them concerning the shipping date and they shipped out the product the same day.) However, if you're going to use this for cat shelters, you might need to caulk the walls and floor for insulation because it's not insulated for storms or snow. Applying waterproof wood stain to weather the elements is also wise. Also the door is too wide and other large animals like raccoon might go in and chase your cats away. It also lacks an escape back door. From my experience, my feral cats won't go in any shelter that doesn't have a back door to escape when other cats or animals try to get in as well. But it's not the manufacturer's fault. This product is not marketed for a cat shelter. But since it said it can be used outdoor I thought it would be a good bargain for cat shelters if I made a few alternations and improvements. It might still work. If it doesn't, I'll put them out for the cats to just hang out and chill. They will be pretty among the flowers and grass. My husband stacked the two pet houses together last night and I like it even better that way. For the product itself with its indoor use purpose I'll give it 5 stars, specially for this price. With the outdoor use purpose, I'll take away one star because you need to caulk the walls and waterproof it. Overall, a pretty and sturdy indoor pet house for small pets. With some improvements, it can be a pretty functional and cute pet house outdoor too.
