Cuts even large blocks of firm cheese
It works very well, so much easier to use than even excellent cheese knives. After about a year of nearly daily use, I broke the wire and had to replace it with one of the extra wires provided with the device. You should take a close-up photo of how the wire is mounted, when it arrives, to make it easier to replace a wire if/when it breaks.

The Great Cheese Slicer Quest - I give up (UPDATE)
My son wanted to take sliced cheese to college with him so I wanted an easy way to cut it up so a block with a wire looked to be the best. I first purchased the RoRo end-grain wooden acacia slicer/ It came in wrapped in newspaper and the metal was rusted. The great Amazon customer service refunded my purchase and I searched for a higher quality slicer. From the reviews this RSVP slicer looked to be the best option. When it arrived I was first struck by the quality look of the polished green marble. Unfortunately, when I lifted the arm the slicing wire was broken. I again contacted the great Amazon customer support and they returned and replaced the slicer. I received my second slicer and when I lifted the arm I saw the wire was broken on this one too. For the fourth time in my great cheese slicer adventure I contacted the great Amazon customer service and they sent another slicer. My forth attempt appeared to finally pay off when I received a slicer with an intact wire. I was very excited and after washing the unit I began slicing cheese. This is one great contraption for slicing cheese. With it’s fine wire I was able to easily cut any width cheese I attempted. As I sliced through my first 8oz block of cheese my slicer adventure looked to be complete. But alas, halfway through the cheese block the wire broke and my spirits sank. I guess I am destined to just slice cheese with a knife. This is a great looking cheese slicer and because of it’s good looks it was one on the few things my wife allowed to stay on our granite counter tops. I wish the wire would last longer than half a block of cheese. UPDATE: I received a set of replacement wires from the company today and I should be able to get through some cheese now. I upgraded the stars to 4 because of thier prompt customer service.

Nice addition to a kitchen
I love it. It cuts hard and soft cheese. I've even cut Velveeta 1/16 of an inch thick. Some people mentioned the wire breaking, I think it's operator error. it will only cut hard cheese so fast you have to give it time to work. the only thing I didn't like about it was the packaging, it came with a broken wire, I think that has to do with the way it was packaged.

Don't even think about it!
This item is of such poor quality that it can't even be put together. The threads on the handle and sleeve that holds the wire don't match and as a result I can't assemble the cutter. The sad part is, it will cost so much to return it that I'm just going to throw it away and buy one from a retail store if I can find a good one. Learn a lesson and spend your money somewhere where you can see the quality of the item before you buy. Amazon has let us down for the first time. I've always been happy with products in the past but this is junk.

Good pick
This slicer is perfect. Even comes with some spare wires. As long as you cut smoothly and slowly it does its job well. If you try to jam the wire through the cheese I can see how it would break. I used mine to cut some smoked cheddar and it worked great. The marble base looks nice and is easy to clean. Great slicer, glad I chose it!

Read the reviews. It's an OK unit which could be better with little effort from the manufacturer.
Same as the other reviews, arrived with the cutter wire assembled and snapped in two. Could have been prevented with better internal packing (contents rattled around). That being said, it looks nice, and they did include two additional wires taped to the underside. Having read the previous reviews, I ordered additional cutting wires in addition to the main product. The marble isn't highly polished, and the fitment is loose. Finally, the bottom feet (used to keep it steady during use) are made of dense plastic and it slides around. Rubber or silicone would have been a better choice to prevent sliding while slicing cheese. I'll be adding a dab of clear silicone caulking to the feet to fix that issue.

Better Than Most Reviews
I chose this because other types of slicers like mandolines and cheese slicing knives cite problems with the cheese sticking to the device. Also this slicer presents no danger from a sharp blade. Slicer arrived in perfect condition. Many reviews cited a problem with the wire not dropping into the marble groove for it. No problem with this one. I thank other reviewers for suggesting that the wire should be moved gently and slowly. Only problem I can see is one has to avoid the part of the wire which has other wire curled around it. Hasn't bothered us-just make sure the cheese you are cutting is not too large. We will use a knife to make big slabs the right size. We have cut hard and soft cheese-just make sure the hard ones are room temperature. Picture doesn't do the handle credit. It is also green marble. This is a very attractive as well as functional kitchen device.

A Very Good Slicer but
My wife and I don't cut cheese in a straight line. Because my knife is old and not too straight my slices come out uneven. My wife on the other hand digs out chunk's with her mother's paring knife. The green imitation marble was a great find. My wife loves green. When I opened the package it looked perfect (even upside down). When I turned it over the first thing I noticed was the attached slicing wire was broken and needed an immediate replacement. Well these things happen. While tightening the wire the handle fell to the floor. I inspected the handle and noticed the hot glue that was used had broken inside. I have everything fixed and I go and try to slice some cheese and notice the whole slicer is sliding towards me. I look under the slicer and see the hard plastic feet. This is why its' sliding to me. If you use this slicer go slow and find something to stand it on so it won't slide.

The handle is crooked so the wire does not land in the groove when slicing.
