Third 3rd Brake CHMSL Center High Mount Stop/Brake Light Lamp Replacement for 2002-2010 Ford Explorer/Mercury Mariner (Black Housing Smoke LEDs)

My ford explorer had a red version that broke. I decided to get the black version since my car is Silver with black trim. Looks great on the car versus the other model. Also, for those not aware of this issue, on some cars if the third light breaks, the car will not shift into gear due to a brake sensor switch that checks the brake lights. After I replace it, it shifts very nice. More than just a brake light. It impacts other systems. Plus you do not want to get pulled over for a fix it ticket. Price is great for a car over 20 years old.

Made this photos with the 4:30pm sunlight and it's clearly visible under the direct sunlight. I recently installed it so I don't know how much it will last. Definitely it's a great upgrade from the factory halogen light.

Fit perfectly, easy to install. Amazon said this is not compatible with my 2002 Ford Explorer, but I went off of other reviews that said it does fit.

I recommend you dry fit the gasket on the brake light before removing the protective seal. I put one of the brake light mounting screws through one mounting hole on the brake light, this helped keep the gasket in place and assured the gasket would line up properly.

About half of the bulbs in my OEM CHMSL were burnt out, and last time I changed them it was getting to the point where the plastic housing was disintegrating from age, so I figured it was time to change it out entirely. I never loved the look of the OEM light with all that red plastic surrounding the actual light, so I went with the "Smoked" color. The light isn't quite as bright as the incandescent OEM lamps, but with the smoked housing, it won't be constantly glowing red in the sunlight, so it may still wind up being more noticeable, and it looks quite nice on my "Dark Stone Metallic" (aka: Dark Grey) Eddie Bauer Edition Explorer. The area surrounding the actual light is chromed under the smoked lens, but it still looks far better than stock. The gasket that came with mine has adhesive on one side, as it should. Some reviews are saying they got double-sided tape. It did come with a washer nozzle, but as you can see in the closeup, it's missing the actual spray nozzle insert that the OEM has, though it does come with instructions suggesting reusing your OEM nozzle. I didn't see mention of it elsewhere, but this is a steady-burning light; it does not have an initial flash like some LED CHMSLs do.

The spray nozzle replacement doesn't really spray it just squirts that's why I gave this four stars. Otherwise the LEDs are not as bright as my OEM light bar. But still work significantly well. My favorite thing about it is it's flush with the body it's a smooth Bodyline and the fact that it's darker makes it look great with my 2004 Explorer

Looks great installed, my issue with this was the supplied washer nozzle did not fit the light, had to reuse the original one. The supplies 3m “gasket” is more of a double sided tape so there was no repositioning. Things I would change would be the 3m tape for some type of gasket, either supply a washer nozzle that fits or not at all and finally some new screws would be nice. Other than that it completes the look I was going for. I hope it lasts
