The Wonders of Nature (DK Children's Anthologies)

I love this book. We got "An Anthology of Intriguing Animals " last year and loved its classy feel and fascinating facts. We were really looking forward to this being released and haven't been disappointed. It is simply stunning - gorgeous artwork, beautifully produced and well made with quality pages that are gold edged. This gives it a very expensive and sophisticated look. It looks great on our coffee table and has been commented on by many visitors. The writing is very engaging - full of fascinating facts and insights presented in bite sized chunks. Although aimed and written for children readers in our house of all ages have enjoyed reading this and dipping in and out of it. I am 43 and have learned so much!! Wonders of Nature is a good title as the subject matter is broad, more so than most other nature books. In addition to plants and animals this book covers rocks and minerals and microscopic life. These would not always be subjects to grab my attention but the writing is excellent and fascinating. Who knew that microscopic water bears are everywhere and are the toughest animals of all - being able to survive being frozen, boiled, show and starved of water?! When I bought further copies in waterstones ( sorry, amazon) the lady at the till said that this was her favourite book of the year and I can see why. I have stocked up for Christmas presents and for myself and know that I have secured myself a great gift that will be well loved for years

A really beautiful book with lots of interesting topics. Lovely illustrations and a great way to spark curiosity about the natural world. My 9 year old loves it and asked for more from the same range. Perfect for children who love learning and exploring new ideas.

We already have Ben Hoare’s ‘An Anthology of Intriguing Animals’, and his latest book, ‘The Wonders of Nature’ is such a lovely accompaniment to it. Despite them being primarily children’s books, any lover of nature would enjoy these, and they both sit proudly on our coffee table in our ‘grown-ups lounge’! ‘The Wonders of Nature’ has a certain quality to it. It is beautiful to look at and feel, the content is informative yet easy to read, and the illustrations are stunning. It’s a lovely book to read with children, especially as it is so visual; the illustrations are large, colourful and eye-catching. We particularly like the little pictures of the rocks and plants etc. next to each written item on the contents page, and we also like the visual guide at the back of the book. Ben’s writing is informative without being boring, and his humorous facts about each plant or animal or fossil make it more engaging, particularly for children. This book is also great value and would make a great Christmas present for children or even as a ‘house’ present for a family.

This is a must have book for all ages. It gives a good insight into the world of nature and kids will learn something new with every turn of a page. Illustrations are beautiful! Highly recommended book!

Along with the vibrant coloured little pictures that decorate the front…enticing the reader in…the purple hardback cover is embellished with shiny gold that includes the writing and follows through to the spine. The pages are edged in gold colouring & a cream coloured ribbon is attached to keep your place in the 224 quality, matte-finish pages. As explained in the short INTRODUCTION on page 2, the book is split into 4 main parts that have a double page spread general introduction: ~ ROCKS AND MINERALS (page 4-31) ~ MICROSCOPIC LIFE (page 32-57) ~ PLANTS (page 58-134) ~ ANIMALS (page 135-213) Each is subdivided into various ‘topics’ over a double page spread that is dominated by a large and colourful main illustration that often spans the spine area. This book (and the others) have been on my list for a long time. I was so happy to see it on sale, so I grabbed it and couldn’t be happier. The illustrations are beautiful and it’s filled with information. I can’t wait to get the rest and finish the collection.

The book is good for 10 y kids or younger if he/she has interest in nature. It has tons of knowledge and covers one topic of class 12 that is animal world. As a teacher I can assure u the main problem teaching with 11 and 12 students is their lack of knowledge or knowledge limited to school books, which seriously lack in knowledge and also are out dated… It’s good to develop reading knowledge and have wide knowledge from early age… The book is good and has ton of info…

Beautifully made, my daughter really likes these books. Although I have to say that the selection of what is shown seems a bit chaotic to me. Does not disturb my daughter though ;)
