Triple Eight RD Bumsaver Women's Padded Shorts help to protect hips, thighs and tailbones of roller derby skaters and skateboarders. Engineered in collaboration with professional roller derby skaters, the RD Bumsavers have an ergonomic design made for women’s bodies. Made with a double layer of solid-fabric Lycra spandex, crash pants are form fitting, while the breathable material is bacteria resistant, quick dry, and won't stick to the skin. With a convenient small inside pocket for a mouthguard, the impact shorts can be worn alone or under shorts or leggings. Equipped with shock absorbing, 10mm thick EVA foam for increased protection, each pad can be removed to customize the padding zones. Designed for women’s thinner waist and broader hips, the fabric can accommodate all shapes and sizes. Pads and shorts are machine washable (wash in cold water and air dry). Triple 8 RD Bumsaver shorts are available in five sizes to fit kids, youth, and adults: X-Small fits 22–27 inches, Small fits 26–30 inches, Medium fits 29–33 inches, Large fits 32–38 inches, X-Large fits 36–42 inches. To determine proper size, measure around waist. Manufacturer's 180-day limited warranty.

Great padded shorts
Definitely adds protection to the booty bone. I always seem to fall on my tail bone when skating and the last fall had me extremely sore for weeks! Decided to order these and I’ll probably try another brand soon. This is spandex with pockets of removable foam. Unfortunately the foam adds quite a bit of insulation of body heat, so expect to sweat a lot with these on in the summer! For the added protection, I’ll deal with the heat.

Too Small and binding
I love Triple Eight gear but these shorts were way too short and snug. I am in the processes of returning and exchanging them for a larger size. I'm pretty petite so I thought the small were be perfect but I could barely move in them. I've worn padded shorts skating before so I know they are suppose to be snug but these were too much. They are also really short, which is in the description, but I wasn't expecting them to be as short as they are. I typically prefer longer shorts in the legs but I'm willing to give a larger size a try.Other than the sizing, they are really light weight and I expect comfortable with the right size.

The short nature of the shorts is great, but I found that the pads did not ...
I skateboard. Typical falls are on the hip pointer and sits bones (what you land on when you fall back from frontside grinds onto the flat) and tail bone. The short nature of the shorts is great, but I found that the pads did not cover the hip pointer. It was right in between the pads. It also did not cover the sits bones.

go up a size
sizing is a little off. i'm a 200lb 6' dude, i fit a size 36, but prefer a looser fit so i go 38 on pant/shorts. the L here doesn't really fit to 38. barely 36. i'd say max comfort fit of a size 34 for the large and max comfort size is 40 for the XL. the large for me is too tight as it becomes restrictive of movement and just feels too tight. padding seems ok for slalom skateboarding and maybe some park cruising. this is probably not the correct equipment for high speed falls on pavement, but certainly better than nothing.

Exactly What I Needed
I bought these to use with snowboarding. I have broken my tailbone and sacrum and just can't go without padding. These fit perfectly. They are like stretchy biker shorts with pockets of foam. The foam is removable. I took it out the hip padding. I'm hoping to double up on the tailbone padding. The foam is only about 1/2 inch thick and seems to be a simple foam. I like that the padding goes higher than the tailbone to protect my sacrum as well. These fit easily under my snowboard pants. And they're comfortable too. I can easily move in them. I don't feel restricted at all.I bought a size small. I have a 27 in waist and 38 in hips. They fit perfectly, and probably with a bit of room to spare since they are stretchy.I bought a pair of Burton's Red protection pads but had to return them - they had loads of hip padding and hardly any tailbone coverage. Not to mention they wouldnt fit under my pants. Could not remove those pads either. And they were at least twice as much!I will update after they get some usage on the slopes.UPDATE 1.15.15I have now hit the mountain twice with these...Ouch, my poor bum. While these definitely helped (no breaks!), I think I could have used more padding personally. The padded locations were slightly bruised while the areas with gaps had the biggest bruises I've ever had...the kind where a lump forms - the hematoma bruise. If I had only fallen a few times it would have been better, but I pushed myself and made it worse. I think these shorts are perfect for the person who might fall a few times, but not for the one who will be falling all day on hard surfaces. My favorite part about these shorts is still that you can remove padding and how they fit! Now if only I could add a little more in a few spots!

my hips looked like the milky way galaxy - giant black and blue ...
I'm a 45-year old just getting into skateboarding with my kid. Before I bought these, my hips looked like the milky way galaxy - giant black and blue bruises. NO more. I also took them snowboarding and didnt spend the next month in the chiropracter. great force transfer and just enough, but not too much padding, so that you can wear them under gym shorts, khaki shorts or snowboarding pants.

Just OK.
Pros:You can customize it taking out some of the protector through little holes that it has on the inside. The material is good. It's the only bumsaver with a short version.Cons:Although I followed the sizing chart, they are a little bit tight. The protections aren't as thick as they seem to be on the picture. My main objective for these was to protect my tailbone while snowboarding. It offers a certain level of protection for the tailbone area, but I believe a roller hockey girdle would be sturdier.

Absorbs the shock!
I like these. They saved my butt in roller derby..litterally! Most people couldn't tell I had them on under my small shorts. The only thing is, the pads go pretty high up the back, rather than under the button, like needed, but when I fell it really absorbed the shock of it better than falling without them.

This is only for Woman!!
This item is presented in a manner that make it appear to be the normal Bum Saver Shorts from Triple 8 though they are actually the roller Derby ones that are suitable for woman. The title states the initials RD instead of the full Roller Derby. In addition, the description at the top reads "In collaboration with Skateboarders, Roller Skaters, BMXers and mountain bikers" though the description on the package actually is "Designed and tested by Derby Girls for Derby Girls". The information that this is a woman's item can be only found in the second description further down. All this could be an accident or a purposeful obfuscation of what the item is (that due to it being elastic will awkwardly fit a a man) in order to get rid of stock.Apart from all that the quality of the item is quite low anyway. I purchased instead the powerslide ones and the difference in quality is crazy. This item should be priced at 15-20 pounds.

Not so "heavy duty"
As another reviewer mentioned, these shorts were specifically designed for women, so bare that in mind. The other gripe I have is that besides some fairly cheap looking stitching for something apparently worth nearly £50, the manufacturer's instructions clearly state:"These hip pads are not intended to provide protection in the event of a serious fall when travelling in speeds in excess of 13km/h and will only offer limited protection in the event of low velocity impacts with stationary hard surfaces."This might explain some of the more irate reviews where a lot of people are finding they do little to nothing in terms of actually fast travelling sports. For that reason I feel the description is a little misleading, as these are definitely "beginner"/"nearly-stationary-practice" shorts, not so much "heavy duty".In terms of fit, my usual size is medium/10, and these fit true to size for me.

Not bad for Derby
They reduce the amount of pain but definitely don’t completely prevent bruises. Not bad for roller derby.
