Does its job very well
I have 3 bikes, 2 road bikes and a mountain bike and the importance of keeping your chain and drive train clean cannot be overstated. After a few " episodes " of using a rag and toothbrush w/ WD40( not a good idea), I decided to go this rout as opposed to having a removable master link installed. The day I got it I cleaned my best road bikes chain. I used Simple Green as opposed to the fluid that came with it. IT WORKED GREAT !!! I ran the chain through a rag to get off the heavy dirt/grease,filled up to the line with straight Simple Green, gently pushed the top down and latched it(I didnt use the handle, seemed to be to awkward, just wrap your hand around it ) and ran the chain through about 30 revolutions, emptied and refilled again as the chain was kind of dirty.Ran the chain through a rag to get as much of the remaining SG off , then filled it up with clean water and repeated. It is important to remove whatever cleaner you use because if its left on it will dissolve whatever lube you put on. The chain came out VERY VERY clean, especially in between the links and it took maybe 15 min tops. Let it dry and lubed with the lube that came with it, which is decent stuff and the chain has been really quite and shifting very well since. You do have to hang on the unit pretty good when your running the chain through it and figure out the best way to place it so your chain doesnt drop off but its not rocket science, with a little practice and some youtube videos you'll get it figured out.You will get some liquid leaking but thats to be expected, just put a rag under it. The bottom line is, its easy and fast , works VERY well, and will make your chain cleaning/maintenance more regular which is really the KEY. Its not built like a tank but its not as fragile as some have said, its hard plastic, after all its a chain cleaner not an anvil so just be careful with it. Well worth the price and wish I had bought it sooner. I consider this to be as necessary as the lube because if you lube a dirty chain your just spreading the dirt/grime deeper in the links. My friends watched me clean my chains and all agreed it was a must have item and were impressed with how well it worked.I mean I can read HG on each and every link now. When lubing your chain you only need to put a drop on the rollers between the links, spin the chain through the gears, run through a rag to get the escess, and you can just wipe the sides with the excess you get off. anything more is just a dirt attractant. Let it dry overnight or at least 2 hours before a ride. My regular maintenance is to run the chain through a rag after each ride to prolong deep cleanings.

I don't like single-purpose tools, but this is the exception
I don't like having custom tools that do odd, infrequent jobs. I would rather use a set of brushes and rags to get my chain clean than have to store and port around a single-purpose tool. That said, I finally caved on buying one of these after multiple attempts at cleaning my chain in my tiny apartment. I used to wedge my bike in the shower so I could hose the thing down and, after getting grease everywhere, the darn chain was still only half clean. I got this thing and, after one use, will never go back. It gets the chain INCREDIBLY clean and it does it in 1/5 the time it used to take me to clean without it. It's easy to use and you don't have to find some weird place to use it since it's a self contained system. All the grease and road grime is caught and then can be sent down the sink. And there's a magnet in there to catch the inevitable small metal filings. Just remove the magnet when rinsing and all the filings are set free in a container of your choice. Fantastic. Rotating brushes get in between the links and a set of plastic flaps gets the top, bottom and sides of the chain as it slides by. The design of this thing really does get your chain clean. The included degreaser works very well. And it smells rather nice, like apples. The wax-based lubricant is also fantastic. I used to be a wet lube guy, but in NYC there is this black dust on everything and it just gums up your chain. I'll be sticking to this wax-based lubricant from here on out. After a cleaning and lubing, my shifts are lightning quick. More importantly, though, is how effortless it becomes to pedal. It's an astronomical difference. Highly, highly recommend.

works good, value product
overall this works very good at cleaning the chain. one thing i felt was essential to this was a solid mechanic stand, the one i use is the park tool home mechanic pcs-9. the reasons being is that in the beginning it takes a decent amount of force to get the chain moving through the cleaner and I don't really see a kickstand or trying to hold the bike with one hand or whatever as being adequate. It was definitely helpful to be able to solely focus on operating the chain cleaner without having to worry about the bike standing up. The directions suggest a dry run before cleaner is added, if your chain is very dirty, like mine was, I would recommend to skip the dry run and perhaps even apply the degreaser directly on the chain as well as in the cleaner to help it get started. When i tried the dry run the resistance was so strong it popped off the to cover/brush and i thought i might have broken the handle. The clip and everything withstood this initial misuse which looks to me like it will be pretty durable and I was able to reattach/reassemble without any difficulties. As a solution i just added the degreaser and held on to the main body of the cleaner with no problems. I didn't really count the revolutions, just kept going till it looked clean, possibly the downside to this is premature wear on the brushes but time will tell. On the upside, the packaging points out that the brushes, magnet, and plastic cushion are all replaceable (of course you will probably have to buy these from finish line or come up with your own DIY). The difference after was significant and I felt like I could stay in a higher gear against inclines and hills much longer than before, also now the drivetrain is whisper quiet with the addition of the dry teflon lube. Both the degreaser and the lube worked great, without these it is an ok value, with it is a great value and for $25 with free shipping and no tax (through bicycle source, not amazon) you'd be hard pressed to find a better deal. If you find anything cheaper it will only by 2-3 dollars you'll probably pay for it in reduced functionality/durability. Get this and stop grinding your chain into dust!

Great Chain Cleaner, But Messy
This device works very, very nicely. However, one thing that the video and instructions don't mention is how messy it can get. I was pretty naive and made a bit of a mess the first time I used it. First, you need to steady your bike before you clamp the device onto the chain. If you have any solid oil/dirt buildup on the cogs, scrape that off first. Make sure you do this cleaning outside in an area where you don't mind a little oily splatter. Also, make sure you have some rags or heavy paper towels to wipe down the chain and your hands after it's cleaned. Also make sure you have a sink and a bar of Lava ready to clean your hands. This device works in seconds and does a wonderful job of cleaning the chain. Afterward, you need to have a place to dump the used degreaser solution and a place to clean the device and old rags to place it to dry. If you typically store your bike indoors, be sure to put down a mat or rags or something to under the bike. After cleaning and drying, I applied the lube, and my chain works very smoothly and shifting while riding is like new again.

Works as described
Jan 19, 2024: This machine works as described. It clips on to the chain with solvent inside. The user holds the device handle with one hand to keep it in position, then turns the crank backwards with the other hand to move the chain through the brushes inside the device. I'd recommend doing it outside with a bike stand, against a wall, or with another person to hold the bike. Afterward, one allows the chain to dry then lubricates it. The solvent is supposed to be biodegradable. I used Dawn dish detergent to clean the device after use. The body of the device is plastic so shouldn't be handled roughly, but it's durable enough for its intended purpose. I think it's worth the purchase price since it automates a somewhat tedious task and is pretty thorough.

Great for the occasional rider.
I am a casual rider. City, trails and occasional beach paths. I haven't washed my bike since I bought it 5.5 years ago. Time to give some pampering to my trusty GT hybrid bikes. I haven't washed a bike since I was a kid and while searching how to clean a mountain bike, I came across this chain cleaning product and various others. Reason I chose this was because of the all-in-one. For the occasional rider this is perfect. I'm sure more serious riders will use Simple Green and have more fluids to use. The application of use is pretty easy but you'll need some paper underneath the bikes since it drips. Since I don't have a stand, I just pedaled while holding the rear tire off the ground and let the cleaner hang there by itself. It works. It cleans really well. Gets into each chain link. I'm sure using a rag will not get into those areas and as easily. Once I was done with my bike, I took it for a ride without any lube. I noticed smoother and cleaner shifting. (waiting for the degreaser to dry before putting on the lube.) Pictures of my other bike shows the before and afters. As you can see we did go through the sand on the beach and cleans it all off. I would recommend this product. Wish I thought it of =)

It Works, But Messy.
IS a little troublesome to use and makes a mess of degreaser all over my floor! Maybe it was just me...want to try using this tool again not make sure its not me usign it wrong, but still don't think it was worth buying after i got the chian tool (could just soak chain in degreaser). I mainly brought it b/c it came w/ the degreaser and dry lube that I was going to buy anyway, so I'd thought it be a nice kit to clean up the chain. A mistake I notice at first is that the chian just be on a high gear (biggest chainrring on front, lowest chainrring on rear), I found it much easier to use it this way as the tool stopped moving towards the sprockets whenever i rotated the chain. even with me holding a tight grip on it, it was still a problem, but now solved after re-reading instructions.

Works as Describer, Chain Cleaner and Lube Also Good
I had the earlier version of the Finish Line chain cleaner a number of years ago, and this model is much improved. As the instructions indicate, there will be some resistance to turning the cranks with the unit attached, so be sure to test it out with the chain positioned on the second or third smallest rear cog (second worked best for me). The bike should also be in a sturdy workstand or otherwise be held securely. The cleaning solution works well. Finish Line says use full strength or dilute, I diluted it one part cleaner to three parts water to make a pint of solution, and it worked well. Spin the cranks backwards slowly, holding the cleaner unit firmly with the other hand. I found the detachable handle provided by Finish Line to be very cumbersome, it's better to just hold the cleaning unit with your hand. You can expect some dripping of cleaning solution, so don't try this on your white shag carpeting! After turning the cranks about 20 times snap the unit off and clean and dry the chain with a clean rag. Also clean the cleaning unit by running it under hot water in your sink. The chain lube is also good, but I've got plenty of Prolink Gold lube, which I think works better. If you haven't used a chain lube before, remember to put it on a CLEAN and DRY chain, and use just ONE DROP on the inner roller of each link. Shake the bottle well first, because the lube is in suspension. After I lube the chain I let it dry again and then run it through a rag again to remove any excess. Another tip would be to clean the cogs, jockey wheels, and chainrings BEFORE you clean the chain, so you don't pick up the gunk from the cogs and rings the first time you shift through the gears.
