An Invaluable Varnish!
Consistently high quality, crystal clear clarity, durable protective coating that enhances the beauty of the subject. In addition, it dries quickly and there is never any yellowing or clouding. A little pricey, but a little goes a long way, making this varnish last!

Quality fixative
Windsor Newton makes high-quality art products. I purchased this to protect a pastel preliminary drawing that I did in preparation for an oil painting. Note that the pastel was darkened by the spray: the pastel is permanent however and I can go back and draw over the spray.

Always the best.
I use this on all my finished oil paintings. I wait 5-6 months then apply. Making sure the surface is completely dusk and partial free. Then I slowly, evenly, coat the painting. I let one coat dry for 48 hours, then decide on another coat. One is usually enough. This top coat varnish/glaze really brings out the depth of a painting. Very satisfied.

Individual results may vary, but my only complaint is that I may just have a detective spray nozzle.
I received this item very quickly, well packaged and in good condition. Tried it today on a quick drawing as a test, and it has a scent rather similar to pine sol and isn't terribly overwhelming in strength, though I never spray anything indoors. I'm glad I didn't use a finished work because the aerosol nozzle is terrible. Truly, I might have gotten a more even application with a mop and a bucket of the fixative, but it does dry quickly, especially considering that it was so heavily applied. It did dry to near invisibility, though I can see streaks and globs in places, but if the stuff holds up and does the job of preserving that I bought it for, I can work over that. If you're an artist who does very fine work or relies heavily on a pristine finish, I'd use this with caution. In all fairness, I may have just gotten a bad spray nozzle. Hey, it happens. I have great faith in W&N, this is the first time I've ever had a less than stellar performance from any of their products, so I'm willing to give it a shot. If I really like it over time and with continued use and buy a 2nd can that sprays the same way, I'll be back to revise my review. For now, I'm just disappointed, but besides the nozzle, the product itself is colorless, leaves a satin finish on the paper I've tried it on, doesn't stink or give me a headache, and yes, I'd say it's easy to apply, just very messy.

You can trust your oil painted canvas art with this spray
I did a lot of reading reviews on varnish before deciding on ordering this product. I really wanted the high gloss version but would have to wait at least a week before it shipped. I decided on the satin and it does work well. Make sure you look up directions prior to use online as the print on the can is so small it's illegible. Not much too it but it needs a really good shaking and make sure your art is dry before application. My first 2-3 layers did not give me any shine so I was a bit dissappointed that my oil paintings were not getting the brilliance I wanted from the varnish application. By layers 3 & 4, and I started to spray more heavily, I saw the sheen I was looking for. These were my very first paintings and I entrusted this spray to seal them. I'm happy with this product and would order again. Next time I will get the high gloss version and hopefully won't have to apply as many coats.

I like this product. It was not as smelly as some said and dried very quickly.

Easy to use
This varnish went on smoothly and left an attractive finish. It does have a slight odor, so use in a well ventilated area.

I probably sound like a newbie saying it (because I am so this was a lesson for me) but this severely REEKS worse than the crystal varnish I've been using for years. I used to get away with applying varnish in a well ventilated indoor area with an air purifier but this is NOT like that. Absolutely only to be used outdoors or in a garage with the door open.

Recommended to me by a professional artist: linseed oil, white spirit and damar varnish in equal proportions: maked clolour blending easy and gives a superb finish. Recommended
