Review: Awesome Book - I just finished Angel after having read the first three novels. They are truly enjoysble. I feel a personal attachment to the characters, Ryan, Anna, MacKenzie,Phillips and Jack. I love British mysteries and these are among the best. They are unique in their story line, more so than just a plain “who done it.” I am anxiously looking forward to the next book. My recommendation is to start reading with Holy Island and continue through the series. All of the books are well written. Enjoy! Review: Great read - Full of the usual Ryan suspense. They always finish on a knife edge to make sure you come back for the next in the series. Perhaps the next book (5) will.

although there are several fantastic supporting characters as well
I’m cross posting this review for all 7 books in the series as I read them back-to-back. Detective Chief Inspector Ryan is the star of this series, although there are several fantastic supporting characters as well. The first book introduces you to the main characters, their flaws and strengths, as well as the Northumbrian landscape. This author clearly knows the territory in which her books take place and does a beautiful job of describing each location, so much so, that I’ve put the region on my “must visit” list. Each book is a fast paced journey to find the criminal and bring him or her to justice. They’re sprinkled with the emotional details, trials and tribulations of the characters’ lives, which makes each of them real and believable. I had a very difficult time putting each and every one of these books down and now that I’ve finished the last one, I’m desperate for the next… Typically I receive books for free in exchange for an honest and unbiased review, however this is a verified purchase. See all our reviews at our Book Explosions page on Goodreads.

Another superb episode!
Thank you LJ Toss for bringing NE England to life with your gripping detective Ryan series! It is also interesting to see that you are building up the characters that surround DCI Ryan as they play an enormous part in his success and having a great team is key to the success...Ryan’s nightmares seem to follow him wherever he goes, so I can’t wait to read the sequel! Thank you!

Book Four
Angel is the fourth book in the DCI Ryan Mysteries series. To me, it feels like they're getting better. The story was interesting and grabbed me right away. It kept me on the edge of my seat, and I read it straight through without putting it down. I highly recommend these books.

Not a Stand Alone Novel
I have enjoyed LJ Ross’ previous novels in this series. She creates a gripping, fast paced thriller with enough twists to keep you guessing. I loved this book until it only leads into another novel. I appreciate the continuity of story in the series but each book should have an ending and a more subtle lead in to the next book. This screams of “buy my next book.” Add to that her anti-Catholic slant, dismissing it as a myth and portraying Catholics in a less than favorable light and I am not sure I want to read on to the next book

Where to begin
These novels are insightful into human nature and all that humanity is capable of at its worst. Getting to the end is never just a straight shot. Just as I think I’m on to something, we veer off in another direction and off we go. Ryan and Phillips, Denise and Anna, and dear Jack. I believe that somewhere these characters are real dedicated people who lay down their lives and pit their own brand of cunning against evil.
