Amazing Telescope, bought it in 2020!
This Telescope is both fun, easy to use and premium. I have been able to see great details on the moon, Jupiter and its classic bands, Saturn and one of it's moons, Titan. I was also able to see Jupiter's galelayen moons, four of them. This premium Telescope also can view stars exceptionally well. It is also incredibly stable, has an easy to use red dot finder, focusing capabilities, a fully rotational design, stable and adjustable stands, an excellent tray for upgrade parts and the two eye pieces and it also comes with the dust covers. Great for stargazers!! Five star by far.

Excellent telescope
I purchased this telescope for my grandson. Although he is still young, I wanted a telescope with enough power to allow him to see planets as well as just the moon. This telescope met that desire. The included spotter scope is very helpful. I was surprised and happy to see how sturdy and well-built the included tripod was. Instructions were easy to follow and we were ready to begin viewing in no time. The unit comes with a phone attachment and an app for your phone that will assist in helping you locate various celestial bodies. I also purchase an optional moon filter. Great telescope for a young person. I would highly recommend.

For a newbie, nice telescope. Mounting is a little frustrating.
So far, so good. We are new to telescopes and this is our first foray. So far we've been able to see a stunning image of the moon. Setup was very easy. I have only one complaint so far. The telescope will not stay at exactly the point you have aimed at as you tighten the tripod arm which secures the vertical position. So basically when you finish tightening, as soon as you let go, the tube will move up slightly. This is very frustrating especially with higher magnification as you have to compensate for this effect sometimes to the point where your target is not even in view so that when you finish tightening it moves up to your desired target. Considering the very reasonable price, I'm not going to lose sleep over it but I know that I'll probably want to get a more stable tripod soon. Or maybe I'm missing something here, but doesn't seem like it. [UPDATE] It's the next night. It's IMPOSSIBLE to tighten the panhandle without raising the altitude. For viewing the moon it's just an annoyance. For viewing planets at 50x (with the 20mm eyepiece) it's a MAJOR challenge to keep your target in view as you tighten (but I was able to get a stunning view of Saturn -- the optics are very crisp). Viewing planets or any individual star or group of stars at 100x is well nigh impossible because of the way that the altitude changes as you tighten the panhandle. To view planets at 100x you will need a better tripod mount. Lowering my rating to 3 stars. :( [ANOTHER UPDATE] The problem is too much vertical play in the azimuth which throws off altitude. Making sure the azimuth is completely tightened before adjusting altitude helps. But it does not solve the problem. Not sure there's anything to be done except get a better tripod mount. [ONE MORE UPDATE] Celestron customer service has been great. Service is part and parcel of a product, so I re-up to four stars.

Great, capable, and easy-to-use telescope
This was a Christmas gift for my 9 year old daughter. It’s a little big for her, but the telescope is something that the whole family can enjoy together. We have especially enjoyed looking at our moon and the moons of Jupiter. I am very glad that we did not get the equatorial mount version, as that would have been way too complicated for our kids.

Good telescope, bad stand that ruins the experience
So I think the telescope portion of this product is decent, especially for beginners. I did not expect this to work out of the box with the snap of a finger. It's a fragile product with lots of sensitive pieces, so getting started, set-up and running took a bit time and getting used to. But the effort is well worth it. However, where this thing really underdelivers is the stand/tripod. Mine is either busted, used or simply not up to the task. I have read some other reviews that indicate that this stand simply is the weak point of the product. Adjustments are too clunky and the slightest touch from anything brings the setup out of alignment. Mine also seemed to have a bad movement system as the film that I believe was supposed to between some inner pieces of the movement reached out of the movement and made the adjustments even tougher. I had to revert to an alternate tripod I had available for my photography purposes, which was much better suited and actually functional. But at this price I expect something working. The telescope itself is good I guess, once you get the object in scope. Finetune the finder at daytime, not at night when you want to focus on actual viewing. It comes with two lenses (?) and they offer a decent different range for different types of objects. I believe to have had a good look at saturn, but let's be honest: Do still not expect more than a look at a bright shiny round white object. Where this shines is getting a better look at the moon. Set that at your goal and you'll be happy with what you got. But as mentioned above, be ready to invest in a different tripod that can be adjusted on three axis or have something available already.

Good for the beginners but do not expect too much

It's a guaranteed level of quality. My first telescope was a Greenkat, had it at 10 years old (1980). It was nearly as good as this one for magnification. However this Celestron has a lot of play in all gimbles and moving parts. My Greenkat was solid and smooth, all metal parts on a small 1 foot tripod. The red dot pointer again has play, it shakes and sticks, good as a guide only. Do not expect radar missile weaponry accuracy, more toy like if you ask me. God knows what the other China imports are like as this is a known brand. Its simple and easy to set up and you can see a lot. But my old Greenkat from 'Boots' did nearly as good a job and was super solid. All the space pictures and headlines on the box are indeed there to impress. It has lost a star (reviewwise) because sadly the UK made better telescopes 45 years ago for a lot less money. I wonder why I paid 130 pounds more, maybe the others are junk or Celestron is overrated and overpriced, one of these facts must be true.

This is my first telescope and I was worried that i have to spend a lot time to aim it to any star. I was pleasantly surprised that on first night, i was able to see the Jupiter and its four moons. The moon looks fantastic. And the following night, saw Saturn and its rings. All using 10mm eye piece. Now i want to buy a 5mm eye lens or a barlow lens. The star finder is very easy to use. However, the two screws to align it to the scope is a bit hard to use. And one of it is easily get confused with the red-dot switch. Like the reviews from others, the tripod is not the best one. it is too short for me. And the adjust is not very smooth. Making the aiming not as easy as it should. However, for planet watching, because of the large object lens, it is not a problem. Will see how it performs when view deep sky objects. Over all. it is a good buy. Too bad Celestron did not make a 120mm refractor telescope Could be nice to get one with a bit bigger object lens.

I got this telescope for my birthday as I have always been interested in astronomy, however, we had a cheap supermarket telescope when I was younger, which put my parents and me off from telescopes at the time. This AstroMaster Refractor is a great starter telescope in my opinion mainly because of it's ease of use. However, I would say that it is most suited for looking at the moon. I saw Jupiter and it's four moons, which was a great experience, however, it is quite difficult to keep track of Jupiter given it's movement across the nightsky and the telescope's handle. I also had difficulties using the finder scope, but that is mainly due to me being as good as blind ;). I would recommend using free mobile apps like SkyView Lite. These are great tools to find your way around the nightsky. Overall, this telescope is great. It is durable and of good quality, but most importantly it is a lot of fun using it to look at the stars. Highly recommended!
