Not a stupid question. Yes the 12 volt battery is car battery. That is what powers the amp that powers the sub. This is a dual voice coil 10 inch. If you dont have a lot of experiance with subs i might suggest the 8 inch or any single voice coil sub. The 8 infinity will give the sound your wanting. I have run 2 of these tens together wired multiple ways. But the 8 is less space taking and perfect sound. Hope it helped
